Rising Stars: Meet Brie Jamieson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Jamieson.

Hi Brie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m Brie, the artist behind edro style! After graduating from college in 2012, my then-boyfriend, now husband, and I picked a place, packed our things, and made the long trek from Massachusetts to Colorado! The past `10 years have been a wild ride- in the best way! I was a full-time nanny from 2012-2021, while simultaneously working various part-time industry jobs, and eventually owning and operating a food truck with my husband!

I’ve always been on the creative side but have historically jumped from one medium to the next, never truly pursuing one type of art for too long. I recall finding myself completely enamored by fluid art and resin pouring videos. I wanted so badly to be creating this art myself, but I knew it would be a substantial investment and I was worried it would become just another short-lived hobby like my past endeavors. However, the more I learned about the medium, the stronger the itch to pour got!

In late 2018 I was informed that my nannying position was coming to an unexpected end due to an out-of-state move. After briefly panicking, I decided this was my chance to embark on my epoxy art adventure! I gathered what little resources I had and purchased the necessary supplies. To my surprise, my job didn’t conclude as expected. I couldn’t create as often as I initially planned to, but it was love at first pour and I would use any free time I had after work to create with this new mesmerizing art form.

After a few months of experimenting with my newfound love of resin, the amazing company Countertop Epoxy, based out of Grand Junction, contacted me and offered the opportunity to try out some of their supplies. Before I knew it, I was representing them as a Brand Ambassador which was the validation, I needed to accept myself as an artist and not just another crafter.

Over time, my work has morphed into more of a mixed media style with a heavy focus on resin. My creations are raw, experimental, embedded with emotion, products of my curiosity, and fully representative of my individuality.

After a few years of creating for fun, my work has now been in galleries, juried art shows, featured by Yahoo!, and collected by individuals all over the country! I never imagined I would be creating full-time and am beyond grateful for all the opportunities I have been presented!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest obstacle has always been self-doubt. I am actively working to speak more positively about my art. I’m quick to point out mistakes or shortcomings in my creations before someone else can. As a creator, I try to remember that no one is going to look at my work more critically than I will. Something that I may view as a mistake may seem intentional from someone else’s perspective!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I thrive off of having an ever-evolving style and am not tied to a specific image or technique. Often times my work will encompass a handful of mediums including resin, acrylic paint, clay, micas, wall paint, alcohol ink, glitter, mixed metals, glass, precious stones… you name it, I’m going to try to incorporate it into my work at some point! I love to create stylized agate-inspired art, jewelry, clocks, ocean-inspired art, color-shifting galaxies, purses, memorial pieces, trinket dishes, serving boards, shot skis, the list goes on!

Something that sets me apart from others is that I am not afraid to experiment! I am constantly testing unconventional color combinations and techniques. Without experimentation my work becomes stagnant and my ability to grow as an artist is stifled. By nature, I am a problem solver. I find so much joy in conceptualizing a challenging idea and diving in headfirst to assess that theory. I am most proud of my ability to see an idea through even if it doesn’t initially go the way I plan. I love encountering bumps in the road as I create because those hiccups force me to think on my toes. Admittedly, this trial-and-error style of art isn’t free from frustration, but my aptness to adapt to certain situations and the growth that comes with this type of experience is invaluable. It is so satisfying to turn a wild idea into something tangible!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m not very big into books or podcasts but I am constantly rocking out to music while I work, so I guess Spotify is my favorite app?! On a more serious note, one of my biggest resources is actually the amazing artist community I have met through Instagram! I have made so many wonderful friends in other artists which was a totally unexpected perk of sharing my work there. I am regularly inspired by all of my creator friends and truly appreciate their encouragement, ideas, and constructive feedback. My favorite thing about having so many artist friends is that I get free art critiques whenever I need them!
