Today we’d like to introduce you to Cornerstone Presbyterian Castle Rock.
Hi Cornerstone Presbyterian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story began in 1995, when we were incorporated as Canyon Pines Presbyterian Church. We started as a small group of believers with a big vision—to build a community of faith that would be welcoming, rooted in Scripture, and actively serving others.
As the years went by, we grew and evolved. What began as a small congregation gathered in humble spaces became a vibrant church family committed to worship, growth, and service. In 2005, we embraced a new chapter and a new name: Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. The change reflected not just a shift in identity, but a deepening of our mission—to live out a deeply rooted faith for the 21st century.
Today, in Castle Rock, we continue that mission with open hearts and steady purpose. Cornerstone is a place where people from all walks of life can come together to worship, to grow in faith, and to serve the community we love.
More than a building, we are a family—people learning to follow Christ together and to share His love in meaningful, tangible ways.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but the Lord has been faithful through it all. Like any community that’s grown over time, we’ve faced seasons of change and transition—times that required us to pause, reflect, and rebuild.
Throughout the 2000s we met in four different locations, two Castle Rock schools, the old church building downtown, and on Sunday evenings at a generous Castle Rock church. That made it hard to be found, limiting attendance and finances, and used our volunteer time to just get the basics done. After purchasing our current land in 2010 including an abandoned building, we had to rebuild much of the inside and clean up the property. Yet, through those challenges, we learned as we worked together to trust God’s provision in deeper ways. Walking through seasons of uncertainty reminded us that Christ is the one who builds His
Church. His Church are his people, not a building.
Each challenge deepened our purpose, strengthened our community, and renewed our gratitude. Now, as we look to the future with our site development plan, we do so with confidence that the same God who has sustained us will continue to guide us—both for His glory and for the good of our community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
How We Serve Christ and His Church:
At Cornerstone Presbyterian Castle Rock, we are a gospel-centered, Reformed, and confessional congregation. (We affirm the Westminster Standards, and hold Scripture as our final authority.) We exist to glorify God and extend His grace to our community, by making disciples of Jesus Christ who love God supremely and sacrificially love others.
We emphasize worship, training, and service as the rhythms of Christian life:
• Worship: We gather weekly to worship God — not for entertainment, but to respond to Him, hearing His Word, singing, and partaking in the means of grace.
• Training / discipleship: Everyone is encouraged to belong to a small group or growth class so that spiritual growth is communal, not isolated.
• Service: We believe that following Jesus means serving — both within the church (ministries, care, hospitality) and out in the community (missions, mercy, neighborly witness).
Evidences of God’s Grace in Our Life Together
• By God’s grace, we are known for faithful, expository preaching—proclaiming God’s Word clearly and powerfully so that hearts are shaped and lives are transformed by Christ.
• Christ is building a warm, loving community here, where believers are deeply known, cared for, held accountable, and encouraged to grow in grace and truth.
• We seek to worship God as He deserves—reverently and genuinely—focusing on glorifying Christ rather than entertaining ourselves, with worship that is gospel-centered, substantive, and welcoming to all.
How has Christ shaped our identity and calling as a church?
• Our identity is rooted in the Reformed and Presbyterian heritage, so biblical truth, God’s covenant promises, and life-changing discipleship matter to us.
• We combine historical fidelity with contemporary relevance — we believe ancient truth is perfectly suited for 21st-century life.
• We don’t compartmentalize growth; we aim for whole life discipleship — not just “Sunday religion,” but Christ-centered transformation in every sphere.
• We are intentional about staying put long term in Castle Rock through our site plan, cultivating a deep, lasting witness here.
Above all, our aim is glory to God — not building ourselves, but building His Kingdom, and seeing all things done to His praise.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If we could offer one piece of advice from our experience, it would be this: keep your eyes fixed on Christ above all else. It’s easy to get distracted by programs, buildings, or numbers, but the life of the church depends on Christ’s Spirit working through the faithful preaching of His Word and the power of the gospel.
If we could offer another, it would be to embrace patience and perseverance. Early seasons often come with struggles—limited resources, changing meeting places, and the challenge of building genuine relationships. These are opportunities to depend fully on God’s grace and grow in humility.
Finally, if we could offer a third, it would be to prioritize community and discipleship. The church is God’s family, called to walk together in love and truth, encouraging one another toward maturity in Christ.
Though we wish we had known these things earlier, we serve a faithful God who sustains His church and uses our weaknesses for His glory.
