Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn for iResQ.
Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Members of the iResQ board started helping shelters and rescues back in the early 2000s. Those volunteering efforts grew into perfecting protocol and offering our knowledge and skills to start new organizations, which grew into the high-quality care, healing and natural remedy animal rescue that is offered by iResQ currently. We don’t compete with other rescue groups for “highly” adoptable pets. Our numbers are much lower than other local groups because we take the pets that really need us, those that other groups overlook due to health issues and even those that other groups surrender to veterinarians for lack of medical skills necessary to provide lifesaving supportive care. Every pet, no matter its health status, deserves a chance for a healthy and wonderful life. We love all of our “special” case pets and welcome them anytime we can.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Because we take some of the more difficult pets, we often find ourselves short on funds. We aren’t good at asking for money or sharing the sad reality of some of our pet’s stories. We are so busy focusing on animal care and getting animals out of dire situations that we fail to get the urgent message for money out to the public. It has also become very difficult to find low-cost veterinary care since all of the local vets are so busy and backed up for weeks (some months). We are a small, volunteer-based rescue, we don’t have a facility, all of our pets are safe and loved in a foster home. But this means we can only save animals that we have an open and fully equipped foster home for. Unfortunately, this means there are pets we can’t save.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We have a very natural-focused, health care model. All of our pets receive the best possible food, healthy and gut-supporting herbs and supplements, pre & probiotics with vitamins. Natural baths and water therapy. This helps them build health faster, making for happier, thriving pets!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Colorado is such a dog-friendly state and many of our local towns are really trying to do better with sustainable, natural solutions. This is better aligned with what we do as a pet animal rescue, allowing positive feedback and acceptance for non-chemical and natural remedies that are less toxic and healthier for our pets. (like using diatomaceous earth for ticks & fleas instead of harsh pesticides that get into the groundwater and deteriorate pet’s health)
