Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree McLean.
Hi Desiree, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My partner and Husband Christopher McLean and I bought a Mid Century style home in 2018. With all of our extra cash tied up in renovations, we couldn’t afford refinished or newly made Mid Century style furniture to fit our new home. So we started to scour garage sales. We found many period pieces that needed a LOT of love to be beautiful once more. So we started refinishing them. Once we filled up our home, we couldn’t stop. We kept buying “old” furniture and making it beautiful again. In the process we found our passion. We have a passion not only for Mid Century furniture, but for professional furniture restoration. So now we are sharing our passion with you. We hope you can find a piece within your budget that you love.
We also do custom refinishing on a commission basis.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Selling vintage furniture is not always an easy business to be in. It’s up and down in consistency. This year has been the hardest one yet. The political climate is leading to people saving money rather than spending on furniture items. I’ve received a lot of messages about people wanting to sell their vintage furniture because they are leaving the country. Fortunately our refinished furniture has no tariffs and is an environmentally friendly way to shop!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We professionally refinish and restore vintage furniture in Northern Colorado. We find the beat up, broken and forgotten furniture to bring it back to life. We restore it to like new condition so it can be used and enjoyed for 60+ more years!
Vintage furniture was made differently! It’s sturdy, resilient, and usually made from solid wood. You often fine the most beautiful wood grain on vintage pieces as well. So saving items from going to the landfill is not only fulfilling for us. It helps us bring an environmentally conscious product to our local and national customers!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We LOVE to drive the streets in old neighborhoods and pick out the Mid Century architecture and homes. The most beautiful and unique buildings and homes can be found right in our very neighborhoods if you take a look around! We obviously dislike the traffic in downtown Denver. The tiny streets in downtown are tricky to maneuver with a big truck and trailer carrying furniture!
