Rising Stars: Meet Don Gier Jr of Colorado Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Gier Jr.

Hi Don, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I was always creating. I’d draw on anything I could find. I’d draw on my dressers, my desks, even my skateboards. Creativity wasn’t just a hobby, it was how I expressed myself.

Everything shifted in high school when I took a Graphic Design class. That class opened the door to something bigger. I started making flyers for rap shows, designing album covers, shooting music videos, and taking photos for local artists. I jumped into the creative world and never looked back.

Later, I went to college and earned my degree, which helped me stay focused and sharpen my skills. I started a few business ventures, learning a lot along the way.

Today, I run two businesses. The first is Upward Creatives, where we help small businesses grow through effective Graphic Design, Web Design, and Advertising. The second is BIZ ADventures, where we travel from one small business to the next, spotlighting what they offer to their community. Our first video is always free and posted on our channels to help them get seen.

I quit my job to chase this dream full time. It was a bold move, but it gave me the freedom to do what I love and help others do the same.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It’s always up and down, bumpy, unpredictable, and sometimes you hit a few potholes. For me, one of the biggest struggles has been sales. And I know I’m not alone. A lot of designers and small business owners face the same thing.

That’s why I started BIZ ADventures. It’s a way to connect with other businesses who are also trying to find their footing and build real connections in their communities. It’s about creating trust, telling their stories, and showing the heart behind what we all do.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I consider myself a major risk taker. I recently quit my job to chase the dreams I’ve been putting off for so long. Sometimes you just have to do it for your health and that’s where I stood.
