Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Everitt.
Hi Evan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a tattoo artist it’s definitely been a journey, I always had dreams of becoming an artist, but it was something that had always felt out of reach. One of my best friends had just finished up his apprenticeship and reached out to me telling me that his studio was looking for new blood, it was definitely one of those hole in the wall places in the bad part of town, but a start none the less. My apprenticeship wasn’t an easy thing, I learned from a man who had earned his place, and expected me to earn mine. I wasn’t the most talented, or the fastest learner, and almost flooded the tattoo shop one time even. After a year and a half of blood sweat and tears, and a short stint in St.Louis I had finally earned enough stripes to start calling myself an actual artist. My thirst for knowledge didn’t end there, attending conventions, doing guest spots, taking art classes, and just generally surrounding myself with people who’s brains i wanted to pick and learn every bit of their process I could. Nowadays you can find me at Ink Spot Studio, or at your nearest karaoke bar serenading the masses prepping my appointments for the week.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning of my career definitely wasn’t the smoothest, from getting hazed hard in my apprenticeship to the self doubts of if I was good enough regularly plagued my mind. The term starving artist definitely hit home a little hard those first few years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist that specializes in illustrative styles of tattooing, from American, to Anime, to Black work. Singing is also complimentary during all tattoo sessions
The moments of pride I’ve had in this industry haven’t necessarily come from the tattoos themselves, but from the client interactions. The shy person you help get the confidence to be the center of attention, the grieving mother wanting to capture their child’s memory just right, or helping someone cover the past ending a chapter in their lives. Those genuine smiles as they look in the mirror are the moments I live for.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
