Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Jones.
Gigi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved doing hair, but I also love playing my viola as well. So I utilized cutting hair in high school to pay for my viola lessons. I played in Marin youth Orchestra, Orchestra Piccola traveled to Italy. I want a scholarship to San Francisco state but ended up going for my cosmetology license in California. Went to foothill College for music and also worked in a hair salon. I moved back east to New Jersey where I met my husband raised my two . I played with the Ridgewood Symphony, played in Carnegie Hall with that group. I also played in the Adelphi Orchestra, several churches, etc. All along continuing my business of cosmetology. I’ve been in business for 53 years. I have educated for well known businesses like Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Pravana. I have owned my own business, partnered & have managed salons.
I have earned my New Jersey license, my Colorado license as well as my California license in cosmetology. I am now a sole owner in a Sola Salon Suite in downtown Loveland & have only been in CO for three years. I thought I retired back East in New Jersey, but I love my business too much to discontinue so I am still doing hair,
I auditioned for a violist position in the Loveland Orchestra last years season and have been with them now since Season 24-to date. I was voted in as VP of the board of Loveland Orchestra in May of 2025! I also teach a couple violin students.
I’m a mother of two sons two daughter-in-law’s, and a grandmother of two! I love what Colorado offers for gardening and I have definitely found my passion and that as well by growing my own vegetables!
Play good music, make people beautiful, Love of Faith & Family! What could anything be better!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Leaving my loyal clients back east was hard after 40+ years. Also leaving my second son as well in NYC too! Coming here across country was smooth except for some semi truck accidents. I prayed we get to Colorado safe. Was nice to settle in my home in Berthoud after travels across.
Finding work was a bit of a struggle as I have alot of experience & no clientele.
It was hard to just settle so I finally found my own way in a salon suite and am happy now.
Life is a struggle but YOU have to make it go smooth!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think what sets me apart from others is the caring the experience the love of hair as well as I know how to do everything in my business I owe that to just all the education I have taken in over the 53 years in my business! I specialize in color correction color, short hair haircuts, smoothing techniques
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Oh, I have always been a risk taker I think in both my professions as a hairstylist and a musician. Auditioning for companies to educate as a risk, but I took it and I feel I did very well in it and it was quite educational for me I met a lot of great people over the years and still stay in contact with them as for my music I just keep playing and I keep auditioning and keep loving that.
