Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Hosea.
Hi Haley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in the corporate world nearly 6 years ago with a love for travel! My job allowed me to travel weekly for several years and I made the most of it by exploring after work and on countless weekend trips across the USA!
I quickly learned the travel points game, how to maximize my PTO days, weekends and holidays to travel as much as possible all while working a 9-5! I started sharing my travel tips and tricks for those with a 9-5 in hopes of inspiring others that they can explore this beautiful planet as well!
In 2019, I was traveling so much for work that I decided to give up my apartment and save money on rent to spend my money on traveling instead of rent! I was able to travel a ton for work and more personal trips as well until 2020 happened. I was lucky enough to spend a few months with my parents before deciding to hit the road! I then spent about two years working remotely and road-tripping across the USA, mostly the western half to spend time visiting national parks, learning to ski on the Ikon Pass, hiking, making new friends, and making memories of a lifetime! Throughout my road trip, I shared my love for travel while working remotely with my corporate 9-5 and lived minimally fitting everything in my car.
After three years of working remotely and 27,000+ miles later, I reached a total of visiting 38 states, 30+ national parks, and 24 countries and grew a small community online providing countless travel tips and inspiration throughout the USA and several countries!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a wild bumpy road, literally and figuratively! Traveling three years without a home base had various highs and lows, but overall has been more than worth it! Life on the road consisted of countless long solo drives, constantly packing and unpacking while never really having a home for my items, clothes were frequently wrinkled, I had to be very selective when it came to bringing new things into my life due to the limited space to fit everything into my car, and it was often stressful having all my favorite items in my car knowing someone could easily break in and steal them.
In terms of seeing friends and family, not having a home base made it more difficult to see them consistently, but I was also able to visit friends and family across the west coast and spend more quality time with them!
Full-time travel while working a 9-5 taught me to be VERY flexible since you have to expect the unexpected. Plans will constantly change and you have to adapt quickly! While there are some challenges, the positives completely outweigh them for the memories I have been able to make and the insane landscapes I’ve been able to visit and document over the years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been in management consulting for nearly six years and just recently accepted a new job in Amsterdam in the travel industry!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My genuine love for travel and photography! I easily get so excited talking about either one and sharing travel recommendations with random people I may not even know. The quality of being genuinely passionate about something will shine through and be obvious to others while keeping you motivated toward your goals.
