Today we’d like to introduce you to Hana Moskowitz.
Hi Hana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into becoming a Personal Historian began with a deep appreciation for people’s stories and the realization that every person has a lifetime of experiences, memories, lessons, and wisdom worth preserving.
One of the most meaningful experiences for me was interviewing my grandfather and capturing his life story on video. Having that recording to look back on has become incredibly special to my family, especially after his passing. It reminded me that while photographs capture moments in time, hearing someone’s voice, seeing their expressions, and listening to their stories brings their memories to life in a completely different way.
That experience helped inspire me to turn my passion into a business. I founded Legacy Lens USA to allow other families to preserve their loved ones’ stories in a personal, meaningful, and lasting way. Through professionally guided video interviews, I help individuals share their life experiences, family traditions, accomplishments, challenges, and the memories that have shaped who they are.
As I began exploring opportunities within 55+ active adult communities and senior living communities, I saw how powerful storytelling can be—not only for families, but also for residents who deserve to have their voices heard and their experiences celebrated. This inspired me to expand my work to include community-based storytelling experiences that bring residents together and create opportunities for connection, laughter, and reflection.
Today, through Legacy Lens USA, my goal is to make preserving life stories an enjoyable and meaningful experience. I believe everyone has a story worth telling, and I feel incredibly fortunate to help people capture those stories in a way that can be treasured by generations to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road! Starting a business from the ground up has been both exciting and challenging. One of the biggest learning experiences has been figuring out how to introduce a deeply meaningful service that may be unfamiliar to many people. While most of us understand the importance of preserving family photos and keepsakes, capturing someone’s life story through a professionally produced video interview is a different concept, and helping people understand its lasting value takes time.
As a newer business, building awareness, establishing trust, making connections with the right people, and finding opportunities to share what Legacy Lens USA offers have all been part of the journey. It takes persistence to reach decision-makers, develop relationships with senior living communities, and help families see that preserving a loved one’s voice, personality, and memories is something truly special.
I’ve also learned that entrepreneurship requires wearing many different hats. Beyond the creative side of interviewing and storytelling, there is marketing, networking, planning, and all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a business. There are days when progress feels slow, and you have to remind yourself that building something worthwhile takes time.
Through it all, I keep coming back to my why. Every person has a story worth preserving, and I believe these stories can become priceless family treasures. That purpose keeps me motivated, helps me learn from the challenges, and reminds me that even small steps forward are progress. I’m still growing, learning, and finding my way, but I’m excited about the possibilities ahead and grateful for every opportunity to share the mission of Legacy Lens USA.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I’ve always been a storyteller. Writing, reading, and finding ways to express thoughts and experiences have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Personal journaling and blogging have also been important creative outlets for me, allowing me to reflect, process life, and make sense of the world around me. In many ways, storytelling has always been both a passion and a source of personal fulfillment.
After spending several years working in the corporate world, I realized I was ready for something different. Although those experiences taught me valuable skills, I wanted work that felt more personally meaningful and let me connect with people on a deeper level. I wanted to build something that brought together my love of words, my curiosity about people, and my belief that every life has a story worth sharing.
That vision became Legacy Lens USA, where I work as a Personal Historian, helping individuals and families preserve their life stories through professionally guided video interviews. I specialize in creating a comfortable, welcoming experience where people can reflect on their lives, share meaningful memories, and talk about the moments, relationships, challenges, and accomplishments that have shaped them. My goal is to capture more than just the facts of someone’s life. I want to preserve their personality, their voice, their expressions, their humor, and the little details that make their story uniquely theirs.
I’m also passionate about bringing storytelling into senior living communities through experiences that celebrate residents and create opportunities for connection. I believe older adults have incredible stories to share, and they deserve opportunities to be heard, appreciated, and celebrated.
What I’m most proud of is the opportunity to turn something that has always been close to my heart into a business that can make a lasting difference for others. Knowing that a family may one day be able to watch a loved one’s interview, hear their voice, see their smile, and share those memories with future generations is incredibly meaningful to me.
I believe what sets me apart is the personal connection I bring to this work. I’m not simply interested in asking questions and recording answers. I want people to feel comfortable enough to open up, reminisce, laugh, and share the parts of their lives that matter most to them. Every person has a story, and I approach each interview with genuine curiosity, compassion, and respect for the individual.
Ultimately, Legacy Lens USA is about preserving more than memories. It’s about honoring people, strengthening family connections, and making sure the stories that shape us are not lost with time. Being able to build a career around something I genuinely love is both exciting and deeply rewarding.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that building a meaningful life and career takes courage, patience, and a willingness to trust yourself, even when the path ahead isn’t always clear.
For several years, I worked in the corporate world, gaining valuable experience, but I also came to realize that professional success doesn’t always translate into personal fulfillment. I knew I wanted to do something that allowed me to use my creativity, connect with people, and feel a deeper sense of purpose in my everyday work. Taking that leap and building Legacy Lens USA has taught me that following what genuinely matters to you can be both intimidating and incredibly rewarding.
I’ve also learned that meaningful things take time. As a new business owner, there are days when progress happens more slowly than I’d like, and moments when I have to remind myself to be patient and keep moving forward. Not every opportunity turns into something, and not every plan unfolds the way I imagined. But each experience teaches me something and helps me grow.
Most importantly, I’ve learned not to underestimate the value of listening. Everyone has a story, and sometimes the most meaningful moments come from simply giving someone the time and space to share it. That lesson is at the heart of Legacy Lens USA. People want to feel heard, understood, and remembered.
I’m learning to measure success not only by how quickly a business grows, but also by the impact it has on others and the fulfillment it brings to my own life. For me, the greatest reward is knowing that the stories I help preserve today may become priceless treasures for families tomorrow.
