Today we’d like to introduce you to Haylee Price.
Hi Haylee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Haylee Price. I am a Black and queer content creator here in Denver. I relocated to Denver Colorado at the age of 5. I grew up mainly in Arvada, Westminster, and Brighton Colorado. During this time I participated in gymnastics and cheerleading for 15 years. Fitness and being active have always been passions of mine, other than volunteering in my community.
Being an African American queer woman and growing up in Colorado was not always easy. Being the only person who looks like me, in every space I enter is something I experienced my entire life. This experience gave me a unique outlook on living in Colorado and how I could support and engage with the people here.
That is why I chose to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. I am a first-generation high school graduate and first-generation college student. In addition to that, I am also in the process of obtaining my real estate license and pursuing content creation and social media.
Through my social media, I share information about Denver and general Colorado news. My content also consists of fitness, beauty, lifestyle, LGBTQ+ knowledge, knowledge and content for other African American women and POC, and my experience in Denver.
I will be including some real estate content in the future, with many more exciting ideas to come! I do this not only for myself but for others as Colorado can be a tough place to navigate, and I want my page to be a safe place for all people to come to, and be able to learn and connect with the community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been a smooth road! Just like anything else, there are always ups and downs, but if what you are doing really means something to you, you have to keep going! I have tried many different types of content creation that did not work for me because it did not come naturally. It wasn’t until I heard the saying “document don’t create” that my social media and content creation really started to flow.
My ideas were coming to life and it was much easier to share content because I was sharing what was already happening in my life instead of trying to create a certain scenario. I also had to learn about my audience and what they need from me as a creator. Things like this take time, patience, and consistency but it is worth it in the end!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Something that sets me apart from others is the fact that I do have so many intersectionalities. Being a Black queer woman has given me an opportunity to support and advocate for so many minority groups while educating others on how they can do so as well. My content consists of Denver knowledge, recommendations, events, lifestyle, fitness, self-care, products I like and use, brand partnerships, Black and POC-based content, LGBTQ+ content, and soon-to-be real estate knowledge as well!
I am most proud of the networking I have been able to achieve so far here in Denver. I am also very proud of the work I have done with the company Hooch Booch. Hooch Booch is women founded and owned local kombucha brand that specializes in hard kombucha. I love being able to support other Denver women and their goals too!
There are so many amazing people here, and we can all learn from each other. I look forward to making more connections with people in Denver and diving deeper into all of the different communities Denver has to offer.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned so far in my journey is to prioritize self-care. Checking in with myself to see how I’m feeling physically and mentally is something I do multiple times throughout the day. Giving myself grace when I need it is also something I try to make sure I do.
We are all only human and there is only so much we can accomplish each day, and I had to teach myself that there are times the accomplishment for the day will look like taking a nap to prioritize my sleep and that is okay! I can’t create content if I am not doing well, and if I can’t create content then I am not fulfilling my passion. So it is very important that I put myself first.
