Rising Stars: Meet Jamie Kempfer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Kempfer.

Hi Jamie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always felt like I was put on this Earth to help others, but was unsure of what that would look like in my career. After high school, I finished my degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2013, thinking I wanted to become a parole or corrections officer. The more I learned about our CJ system, the less I felt like it was put in place to help others and rehabilitate inmates. After graduation, I moved down to Illinois, and then eventually ended up in Colorado. At the time I was working at Whole Foods to make ends meet, but was generally unhappy with the direction of where my life was headed. During my time in Illinois, I really started to get into fitness and loved how fitness made me feel. With the convincing of an acquaintance, I started my journey into really learning about health, fitness, and nutrition. In 2017, I finished my National Academy of Sport Medicine certification to become a Personal Trainer. I then started my journey into running my own business and becoming an amateur bodybuilder. I have continued my education with 3 other specializations to help my clients achieve their health and fitness goals. As of this year, I have retired from bodybuilding, being very successful at the local level, and becoming a nationally qualified athlete for 2 years. With putting up my hat so to speak in that arena, I have dived into becoming a Yoga teacher, with the main goal of facilitation retreats in mindfulness and fitness, with the ultimate goal of going into prisons to help inmates find peace within themselves through yoga, meditation, and mindfulness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Everything in my life I have had to work for, with nothing handed to me. I will say that I am thankful for my resilience and would not be where I am today without that resilience and determination. Life has handed me many obstacles along the way, but I am a firm believer that life doesn’t hand you anything you can’t handle.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialization, NASM Behavior Change Specialist, NASM Stretching and Flexibility Coach

200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher

I am currently working on my PN-1 (Precision Nutrition Certification) to become a nutritionist.

I am known for being an amateur NPC bodybuilder, winning numerous Overall, 1st place, and 2nd place trophies, and being a nationally qualified athlete.

I am most proud of my resilience of running my own training business for the last 4 1/2 years, leaving corporate gyms to become my own boss, and having the freedom to travel.

I create close relationships with my clients and have their best interest in mind. I am a very sought-after trainer here in Denver and love to help others, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

What were you like growing up?
I was a perfectionist. I was shy. I was very much a book lover and not athletic at all. I always wanted to be naturally good at sports and not have to practice. I dabbled in a lot of sports but never had the discipline to excel. I was very caring and sensitive (empathic), which has made me very successful in my career.
