Today we’d like to introduce you to Janette Aguirre.
Hi Janette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to be a photographer. I remember I was in 6th grade when I knew that being a photographer is what I wanted to do. I would prefer a disposable camera over a toy every time. When I got my first job at 14 years old, one of the first things I bought myself was a pink digital camera. I carried it everywhere with me. I am a self-taught street/outdoor photographer in Northen Colorado. I started doing it as a side business back in early 2014. People around me could see how much I loved photography and suggested I did it as a side job. Did it for a while, and then my life changed to being a single mom of one handsome boy, and put it off for a long time, didn’t really have time for it anymore.
April of 2021, I announced on my personal Facebook page my comeback to photography. I have 3 amazing children that are my biggest supporters and my reason to push myself to do better in everything I do, my wonderful husband that has been my rock and the one that encouraged me to start doing what I love again, my siblings for their love, encouragement, and support always, my close friends that have also been there supporting me through it all, and of course, my first clients that trusted me. I am thankful to every single person that has shown support and trust in my work because that is what pushes me to not give up, to follow my dream, and to do better. I am still learning, and I love taking advice from fellow photographers. I love doing any and all kind of photography, from nature to quinceañeras. I love to play around with the editing part of it too and just have fun it. I hope I can continue to grow in photography and that I can show my passion to the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am going to have to say it has been a little tough, and the only reason why I say that is because I feel like I did not and still don’t have all the support I thought I would have. I actually had thought about quitting a couple times because of it. One of my best friends said to me, “I will go to you no matter what experience you have because I am your friend”, and that is the reason why I continue. People don’t realize that nowadays you don’t have to spend to show support because of social media. You can show support by liking or sharing a post on Facebook, following the Instagram page, recommending, or tagging. Photography runs through word of mouth, but the most important is for people to SEE what the photographer is all about and I work every day to become a better one. I want the world to SEE my art, my vision through the lens.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a local photographer. I love photographing anything and everything! I can go from nature, street photography to events like weddings and quinceañeras. I am proud to say that I work every time to be better, to be creative, and to be fun while shooting. I recently did a few Boudoir sessions for the first time for Valentine’s this year and I absolutely loved it. I loved the feeling of helping another woman feel empowered and beautiful and I can’t wait to do it again. I find beauty in small things, I capture unique special moments people usually don’t aim for, and I love creative editing, I think is what sets me apart from others.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I do consider myself a risk-taker. We have a saying in Spanish, “el que no arriesga, no gana”, “the one who does not risk does not win.” I took the risk and followed my dream of being a photographer, not knowing if I would have support, not knowing if people would like my work. Life is a risk!
