Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason “Six O’clock” Snell.

Jason “Six O’clock” Snell

Hi Jason “Six O’clock”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been making noise in the underground hip hop scene since I started recording on a 4track back in 1996. Since that time, I have travelled and toured throughout the region and beyond. I am the co-founding member of Insomniaks and Subculture Icons a loose collective of artists who come together to form a super group from time to time and release music. I have released over 36 projects combined solo and with Insomniaks not to mention countless singles and collaborations with people from around the globe. I am currently recording my final solo album that is set for release early 2025.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges of being an independent artist is doing so much of the work on your own. Creating the art, promoting, online content, interviews, shows all these things require time and money to achieve results and without a solid team to help put the plays in motion you will get tired real fast. Maintaining a proper investment budget and learning how to hustle the product is another obstacle many young artists face. I come from the era of selling product right out the trunk or my backpack still to this day I keep physical copies on me at all times. We are in the era of streaming and many people are skipping this step of making hard copies CDs, Vinyl, tapes all things I sell and are more of a direct connection with the consumers. Website included I believe building and maintaining a proper website and mailing list: TheRealSixOclock.com | Insomniaks.com is how we stay connected with our fans long term.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My name is Six O’clock and I am a hip-hop artist originally from Portland, Oregon and raised in Aurora, Colorado. I have been making music since 1996 and continue to make noise to this day. Currently working on my final solo album and my group Insomniaks is also working on a final offering for 2025. I have performed in cities and states throughout the region and beyond. We are now booking more shows for fall and winter 2024-25 and are planning to keep it running through 2025. We have established a community giveback event called “Mile High Cool Day” and we just finished a successful second year on July 28th at Angelo’s in Aurora and are already working on next year. Providing backpacks, bikes and more to local area Aurora kids for the upcoming school year.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Make it how you like it. ART! Time is the most valuable asset we cannot replace. DON’T WASTE IT!
