Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Anderson.

Hi Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was in the salon/spa industry for a span of 16 years. I began my journey in leathercraft as a hobby in the long winters. I started with jewelry and making small bags, I quickly grew more and more interested and invested in more equipment and supplies. In 2018, I decided to go full-time as I grew my social media presence. It has been such a rewarding, amazing journey to find myself here. Today I’m doing some of the biggest orders I have ever received.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Both. The road has been bumpy for sure but this year is smoother. I had to make the complete transition to focus one hundred percent on my business, as sometimes my old job tries to contact me for work. I knew this year would be different and it has been. The bigger struggles are setting boundaries, knowing my value so bring, and continuing to evolve and innovate. I’m now growing that I need a full shop and a few more pieces of equipment but it’s exciting!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a leatherworker. I specialize in a chic western fashion that includes western-inspired handbags and jewelry but with a modern twist. I’m known for my cowhide clutches and my western tooled handbags. I am most proud of my one of a kind items that are created. I still believe in one of a kind, small batch creations. Things only one persons owns and cherishes that can never be repeated. I love creating items for people that they will have forever and it will be for them exclusively.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I was grateful that I had built a social media and following. My business was still busy and thriving. I believe it also gave people a reason to support small businesses and shop with makers.
