Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Dames Young
Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2017, while going through a divorce and selling my house, I formed a strong bond with the agents I hired to sell the property. After being a stay-at-home mom for over 20 years, I asked them if they thought real estate would be a good career for me. Their response was candid: “No, it’s like owning your own business—you pay for everything, and you never know when you’ll get paid.” I took that advice to heart and put the idea aside.
A few weeks later, these same agents were preparing for a European vacation with their family and asked me to watch over their business while they were away. While they were traveling, they called me stating that they had been staying in airbnb’s like ancient castles and 100 year old homes and expressed their desire to stay in a five-star hotel with reliable Wi-Fi at their next location, Madrid. Since my previous career was in the hotel industry, I offered to help. After hours on the phone with a less-than-enthusiastic reservations agent I managed to book them the Ritz penthouse suite—using points— when they arrived, they were greeted by a personal butler. Their excitement and gratitude were overwhelming, and upon returning, they offered me a job. Encouraged by the opportunity, I started studying for my real estate exam. I passed on my first try in January 2018. I worked as both an assistant and an agent, gaining invaluable firsthand experience in the business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been without challenges, but overall I feel like it has been quite successful. I have managed to increase my income annually and am now giving up my role as assistant to become a full time agent.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are a million realtors in Denver, so setting myself apart is important. Having a background in hospitality has been very helpful. My goal is always to make my clients feel comfortable and that I am looking out for their best interests. I always answer my phone and/or texts. I call myself an “immediate responder”. I think it is so important that they know I am available for them during such an exciting/emotional/transitional time. I think my clients would say I’m known for my presence. When I am working with someone, I am present in their life 100%, whether it be in person, on the phone or through text/email. We work together to stay informed and on the same page. I am most proud of the fact that in such a short time I have had so much repeat business. I have clients that have bought and sold with me up to 4 times. I consider it a privilege that they choose to continue to trust me with such an important milestone.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Denver! I’ve lived a lot of places and Denver is at the top of my list. I love that I wake up every day and see the mountains on my. drive to work. I love that the sun shines 360 days a year. I love the quality of life; the ability to be outdoors so much of the year. I love the diversity. I love that there is a restaurant for any craving I might have. I love the uniqueness of the craft breweries throughout the city. There isn’t much I don’t like; I would probably limit it to the traffic (and I grew up in Houston, so I know traffic) and the potholes! To me, Denver has it all!
