Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer “Mariposa” Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer “Mariposa” Young.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I learned heirloom divination skills in childhood from my magical and professional family and once I entered adulthood, I also started charging money for palm readings, astrology chart interpretations, and card readings (Tarot and Oracle). I’ve added a few different types of readings as time has gone by like mediumship readings and numerology readings as well as offering classes on how to do these readings and how to do elemental magic.

I’ve been doing these readings as a side hustle for over 30 years in person and online, one-on-one, in fairs and conferences, and for private and corporate events for over 30 years. I love entertaining others with readings and helping them know themselves and connect with their own spirituality through metaphysical readings.

In addition, I also created a nonprofit vocational school specializing in construction trades (for adults) in 2019 called BEATSchool. This year we really hope to secure large sources of funding and branch out our offerings to encourage more diverse people including women to have a career in the construction trades.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am really happy and content with how my metaphysical reader business has gone and is going. I’ve never wanted to do it full time and it has always been an enjoyable side hustle for me. The nonprofit, of course, has been more challenging on the fundraising side. We want to keep training, job placement, and basic education classes free or low cost to students so it is quite a challenge to offer quality training with alternative funding.
