Rising Stars: Meet jerrell hollis of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to jerrell hollis

Hi jerrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was flying into the Denver International Airport on Memorial day weekend. Coming from Charlotte, I had a 12 hour overnight-layover that I was really looking forward to at first. Upon arrival it was about midnight, and we had just approached our gate. When we were un-boarding i realized i had never been to this specific part of the airport which i found strange. I walked out of our gate to find an empty terminal with absolutely no one there except for my un-boarding flight. I used the restroom right next to our gate for about 90 seconds. When i walked out of the restroom everyone from my flight was gone! This is when i started not wanting to stay there overnight.

I began to get a bit anxious unsure where to go. I couldn’t find a directory map of the building, so i did what anyone that is apart of Gen Z would do and went live on tiktok while trying to walk find the exit. I started to have connection issues so i started to record tiktoks to post later. I walked down what felt to be the longest tunnel or hallway ever designed by man, The windows seemed to be very dark, almost darker than usual. But the strangest part was how low the ceilings were. That’s what gave it a tunnel-like feel. While walking i also noticed signs that led to dead ends or doors with no labels on them. It genuinely felt as if i were walking through the backrooms. (The backrooms are a from an old 4Chan thread.)

I walked further until i approached an elevator which took me to the first level of the terminal. I caught the lightrail and traveled to the A terminal where i saw online there are sleep sofas in the airport. I stayed there for a few hours trying to sleep, but there were a few workers/janitors just standing around watching us. I felt uneasy so i moved to the first level and slept by my gate until sunrise to board my flight.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since then going viral has been quite crazy. I’ve been trying to stay out of sight and lay low. It wasnt until the video went viral i learned about all of the lore behind the airport for years. I did an entire deep dive about it on my page.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a lifestyle/travel influencer. My day job, I’m a marketing director for a real estate company. I always try to make the most of my free time when I’m not working to travel and let my wanderlust soul roam free. I’ve already traveled through half of the USm states this year.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
