Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Verano.
Hi Jocelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always had an interest in psychology and art since I was very young. When I was in college and it was time to select a major, I was struggling to decide between pursuing a career in therapy or becoming an artist. A career in Interior Design seemed like a wonderful blend of both, and so far, that has been proven to be correct. I love the way that well-designed, beautiful, and functional spaces influence how we feel, live, and interact with others.
I was raised in Buffalo, New York, and made my first impulsive decision ever to move to Colorado in 2010, where I have now lived for almost 14 amazing years. As a naturally risk-averse person who loves their home base and family, moving across the country to pursue a dream career in Interior Design felt like an impossible choice at the time. Now, I am so grateful for the love and support of my key family and friends who have always encouraged me to go after my goals with full intent as I feel it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a transplant to Colorado, who only knew my roommate in the city, it was not initially easy for me to make contacts in the Denver residential homebuilding market. I had moved to Denver without employment at the time, but I was fully committed to making this new home and career work in my life.
I worked a few, non-industry related jobs and it took me about 2 years to find placement in an Interior Design role with a wonderful company where I was able to learn the roots of high-end interior design and design-build construction.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently the Residential Design Director for Ellis Design Studio. I am one of the lucky people who love their career, and I have the opportunity to work for my amazing mentor, and our company Owner and Founder Diana Ellis. We are an award-winning Interior Design firm based out of Englewood, CO. We specialize in both Model Home Merchandising and Residential Interior Design.
I love working in residential interior design because of the collaboration with our clients and building partners. I find so much fulfillment in designing beautiful, functional spaces that are a reflection of our homeowners. I often think that people underestimate the importance and influence of well-designed, beautiful spaces that are purposefully tailored to your lifestyle needs.
At Ellis Design Studio we are committed to utilizing our expertise, creativity, and experience to make the design, remodeling, and building process a fun and easy experience for our clients and building partners. The highest compliment that we can receive when we have completed a project is to hear about how easy the process was, how much they love their space, and how they cannot wait to share it with others.
What makes you happy?
So many, mostly simple things make me incredibly happy every day. I love starting and ending my day with my incredible husband who has always been a pillar of support and has encouraged me to chase my dreams and aspirations. We are currently expecting our first baby and are so loving the process of preparing for his arrival and are looking forward to the next steps in our adventure together as a family.
I truly enjoy living in a state like Colorado where we have the opportunity to be inspired by our natural surroundings. I try to get outdoors to paddleboard, hike, snowboard, and enjoy our famously known sunshine as much as possible. I am so lucky to have a great support system within my family and friends that I find so much joy in spending quality time laughing and catching up together.
