Rising Stars: Meet Johnny Schleper of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Schleper.

Johnny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Vail, Colorado, Johnny Schleper comes from one of the valley’s well-known local families. His father, Buzz Schleper, is the owner of the iconic Buzz’s Ski Shop, and his sister, Sarah Schleper, is a seven-time Olympic alpine skier.

Johnny picked up his first guitar at the age of 15 and quickly developed into a versatile, multi-genre musician. After high school, he attended the Los Angeles Music Academy, where he further refined his skills as a guitarist, vocalist, and performer.

Over the years, Johnny has performed with numerous bands and shared the stage with a wide range of nationally recognized artists, including Chali 2na, The Expendables, Collie Buddz, Method Man & Redman, Marcus King, Blind Melon, and many more. His diverse musical background and expansive repertoire have made him a sought-after performer throughout Colorado and beyond

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve played in multiple bands and have gone on tour. It’s difficult to get your music out there and be relevant consistently. Self promotion is not my strong suit.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play guitar and sing, and I also record and produce my own music as well as projects for other artists and bands. I enjoy performing songs that stand apart from the typical setlist, with a focus on timeless music that resonates across generations. While classic rock is at the heart of what I do, I enjoy playing and exploring a wide range of genres, bringing variety and energy to every performance.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Spending summers in Minnesota and burning gas on the lake.
