Rising Stars: Meet Jordan Curtis-Bandy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Curtis-Bandy. 

Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
THE START OF ZC CUSTOMS Zachary Curtis Designs LLC. 

The Name. 

The name Zachary Curtis Comes from my good friend Zachary whom sadly passed in 2016, and my mother and I’s last name of Curtis. ZC’s original name was ZooCrew Customs as I had taken the logo from my Previous promotion company ZooCrew Street & Viral Promotions, a gorilla marketing company I started in Tallahassee FL in 2014. As I decided to focus on other heart-felt ventures, I decided to retire the logo for a little until I was able to use it again! I didn’t want my new brand to have the same name of the previous company so in 2018 I decided to drop Zoocrew and honor my friend by making the Z his name “Zachary” And the C, mines 

How it started. 

JANUARY 2018 

I decided after seeing a Designer Bic case online that I wanted one and knew I could make one with ease as I have a background in design and engineering. So, I decided to make one for me and my friends that day. Sooner than later, I realized I might have something. BOOM, Z.C. Customs was born. 

I wanted to make the highest quality lighter case the world has seen. With 18k GP chains and many versions of updating later, we have exactly what we want. All handcrafted, made with care and passion, each item is done by hand with the ZC fabric being produced in London UK imported to our Denver Colorado Facility, and carefully constructed into some of the rarest and coolest item you’ve ever seen! 

I later decided that I wanted to wear my brand as others were asking for clothing as well so in 2019, we added our signature high-end clothing line. Now being just as popular as our bic cases. Our signature Mini Briefcases we added to the line in 2019 as well as I need something to carry my bic cases around to show. Now making everything from hand towels to water glasses, From our original Bic cases to now furniture and everything in between! 

Every item is hand-done in-house with the highest quality materials available.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So, it started out very smooth as I was creating the Bic Covers first. I went from start to celebrity clientele in 1 week. This definitely gave us a huge jump but at the same time, this created a problem. As we went from the bottom to the top, we left out the middle. So, as I get celebrity clientele, I wasn’t getting everyday people as clients. At that point, I hit a wall. So, I started creating clothing and other items that weren’t so pricy and direct customer base and that was more for everyone! That’s when the clothing and other accessories like Drinking Glass, Mini briefcase, and more started to appear, Giving is more of our identity! 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I often get the question what do I do. I really hate this question because it’s more like what do I not do! Lol Early on I started with music and skateboarding! Those were my first 2 loves! Then I got into cars with The F&F and fashion as I grew up on 90s hip hop! When I was 21, I was a GM of a Bagel shop in Tallahassee FL and that really gave me the skills I needed to lead a team of people to success! 

I started a Gorilla Marketing promotion company when I was 24 in Florida as well and that is what really gave me the knowledge on how to run, manage, and grow a business to my fullest potential. I learned graphic design, Video Editing, web development, business management all within a years’ time, and am still always sharpening my skills. 

Getting into fashion was a no-brainer as I had a small clothing line before that was merch for my music career. I have always been infatuated with the brand Versace and the creator Gianni (rip). I loved loud clothing that made a statement. I love hearing people say “oh I like that” or ohh where did you get that I need that” and I was always rocking other brands so when I was able to get my own, you know I hit the ground running! 

What sets ZC apart is how bold and loud our colors are that we use on clothing. Not too many brands use foils and glitters on their clothing and that’s where we stand out. Think of us as Versace’s kid that grew up in the hood a little! Also, our items we carry! We Cary items you can’t get anywhere else. Like our Bic cases handcrafted! It took me 5 years to perfect the Bic case and now no one can reproduce the quality we have with it! 

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Things that I do to help guide me in the right direction are read some books like “the 4 Agreements” & “the 48 Laws of power”. I watch podcast such as Earn Your Leisure (EYLU) Drink Champs, Breakfast Club, really any podcast with someone I respect and want to hear more from! 

But other than that, I study a lot of fashion and at the same time I don’t so I’m not copying someone’s work but more able to come up with my own original thoughts! So, I think it’s good to hear and watch but shut out the noise at the same time!
