Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaliegh Brame. 

Hi Kaliegh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a young girl, I remember the first time I snuck and got my nails done, acrylic nails of course. I fell in love! my mom looked at me in shock as I was not supposed to have those on at 13 years of age (hard estimate). I have been getting my nails done ever since. starting with Average nail polish moving to gel polish, then to colored acrylic powder. The journey with my nails started sooner than other girls my age and I got bored very quickly with the colors offered. At just 18 years old I decided to take things into my own hands. With The original name of my company being 7th Paint. Seven being a prominent number in my history as it is my birth month and birthday, my twin and I being the sixth and seventh addition to completing our family of seven and believing that God created the world in seven days I see it as the number of completion and that’s what I want to provide for my brand a completed set that you fall in love with each time. So, I booked a flight to California to meet with a nail polish manufacturer. With no direction but so intrigued at the process of picking colors, picking bottles, brushes, even the beads that go into a nail polish set up. I was ready to go. shortly After that meeting, I realized I was just going to be slapping my Brand-name onto a product I knew nothing about. Not knowing what was in it, how it was tested or any other factors of the process that was very important to me. I wanted to be sure that what I was selling was safe for the nail community to take part in. Being very discouraged I took a four-year break from 7th paint Still getting my nails done every two weeks needing a new color that was bold, vibrant and long-lasting. Getting out of my own way and rebranding came Seven Shades. Instead of the average the lacquer polish, I noticed the Demand change for false nail consumers as they were really indeed to receive long-lasting supplies such as gel or colored acrylic. So, I decided that’s what I began with, colored acrylic powders and strong nail liquid to provide a strong acrylic nail system. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This is been far from a smooth journey and that’s OK. Not knowing how to start a business as a young teenager I struggled with the business portion as there are documents to be completed and maintained. I thought Registering with the Secretary of State to ensure my business name was available was enough. Quickly learning I also needed a tax Identification number also known as an EIN so I could legally be considered a Limited liability company and be in good standing with the government. Thinking anything that required government approval also required money out of my pocket, so I paid for an EIN, then I realized after more research EIN numbers are free!!! So basically, someone who identifies as a third party purchased it for free and I paid 150 dollars. They would send discount emails and I finally took it, feeling upset at myself for not being knowledgeable I had to take that loss and run with it. So please tell your friends and family that they can obtain an EIN with no cost and be sure they are purchasing from the website that is listed .gov NO OTHER SITE as it not technically a scam but not right for them to charge for something that is truly free of cost. I could’ve have save a lot of money and time if I slowed down a bit. That was my biggest struggle being patient. I had to and am still learning that good things take time. So, research, ask questions and educate yourself as much as possible and even then, mistakes will be made, it is inevitable. Yes, it sucks and may hurt a little but makes that reward so much better knowing you learned from your mistakes and still made it happen! 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Seven shades was created so that independent nail technicians, nail shops and nail lovers can practice and grow their art with a trustworthy product. The goal is to provide a modern approach in the System of false nails. Seven shades is all about providing colored products that are bold and also long-lasting. What sets us apart from other acrylic nail suppliers is that our products are hand-mixed with special pigment to ensure quality. Many Suppliers purchase pre-mixed colors that you can find many places. here, with us our colors are few and far in between. The bead pick-up is immaculate with our monomer nail liquid and we have mastered a perfect powder to Pigment ratio to ensure our powders are not too runny because they’re filled with so much color but just enough. So far, we are very proud of the modernness of our collection from the names of our products to the application. Our first collection goes by the name of rainbow Definitions and that’s what you get a set of rainbow colors defined by their names. With that being another distinctive quality, we take everyday phrases and objects and correlate them to our colors making the experience with our products more personable. Rainbow and Definitions begins with our “rosè all day” Red, “caution tape” yellow, “get that” green, “TMC” blue, “eggplant” purple, and “Wednesday’s we wear” pink. We strive to stay in tune with timeless trends and new trends to appeal to many types of consumers’ skill and creativity! 

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I believe my brand as a whole is surprising to many people. It is not every day that you see a young black girl creating a product that is mainly distributed from bigger more establishments corporations. What most people don’t know is that seven shades will not be limited to the acrylic nail system. We are growing into a company that will offer colors in every form from basic Lacquer to Shellac, and powders. In due time We will be a supplier for everything nails. From Nail tips, nail glue, nail art supplies, LED dry lamps, drills and so much more.
