Rising Stars: Meet Kamy Lynn Neumann of Central Brighton Colorado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamy Lynn Neumann.

Hi Kamy Lynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my esthetician journey about 26 years ago when I earned my Cosmetology license from Englewood Beauty School. At that time the service side of the skin care industry was not as prominent as it has become in the last decade. Almost everyone went to Cosmetology school and the advantage of this is being licensed to be able to perform all aspects of cosmetology including hair, skin and nails. Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly where your interests and talents really lie so it’s good to get a little taste of everything and see how you develop. For me it became skin care that I became most interested in after having 2 beautiful boys and dedicating my life to them for the first few years of their lives and home schooling them for the early elementary years. When I finally got back into my career I knew I wanted to focus on skin care with the ultimate goal being to have my own business. However, this type of work takes time to gain the knowledge and experience one needs to be able to be successful so I went back to more education and training in a med spa as well as working for other spas until I felt I had enough expertise to go out on my own. I finally got the chance to do this in the fall of 2021 by building a sunroom on the back of my house and getting all the equipment and products necessary to do this. My opportunity arose from Covid actually as almost everyone in my industry had to either find another job or take a break from the industry. I had built up a good sized clientele when I was furloughed from my current place of business and didn’t want to let that all go to waste so that afforded me the opportunity to take the plunge with my own business. It paid off for me quickly as my clients loved my new place and the atmosphere I had created. I have found that the ambiance and atmosphere is very important when it comes to this type of business. Facials and skin care does not only affect the physical body, it affects the emotional and spiritual part of a person as well. Part of the reason people seek spa treatments it to experience an oasis in time where they can relax, restore and regenerate both mind and body; to find a sanctuary where healing and improving one’s self can take place in a holistic way. This concept is one of the reasons I have chosen to use mostly nature and holistic products to treat the skin. I have a Native American back ground and think my ancestors had the right ideas when it comes to healing and maintaining the body with what nature provides. I also believe in the importance of health when it comes to beauty and never compromising that just for outward appearance. We need a healthy perspective on beauty that the world doesn’t always promote. One of my sayings is, “The only competition a woman of wisdom should have is with herself.” This is accomplished by a deep realization of one’s self worth and unique identity that cannot be duplicated and should never be replaced. It is the acknowledgment that you are beautiful the way you are and it is only necessary to to care for and maintain what you are not try to be something or someone else. It is true self acceptance and love. When we find that we can easily love and accept those around us and that is a beautiful thing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to have one’s own business as there are many aspects to have to be responsible for and not everyone is cut out for that. There is a lot more to running a successful business than just doing the actual service and treatments. You have to be very disciplined and organized for it to work. You have to put a lot more hours into it than people might realize.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
By nature I am a very creative and artistic person. My husband and sons and I are all musicians. My husband also paints and both of us are writers and have authored several books. My skin care business is just another avenue for me to be able to use my creativity and help others by improving their skin and helping them achieve their skin care goals as well. It also connects me to my clients in a very intimate and profound way. Many of them become like family to me. It’s really special working with people one on one.

What are your plans for the future?
I believe every stage of life is very important and should never be taken for granted. Time doesn’t stop and it doesn’t keep us where we are. We have to move with it gracefully and strive to keep learning and improving ourselves compassionately as we get older. I never worry about my age as I look at it like every year gives me more experience and knowledge that I can pass on to others and help bring more light and goodness to others around me. I want to leave a legacy of leaving the world better off than when I came into it.
