Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerrie Lovins.
Hi Kerrie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi, thank you for the opportunity to be included on Voyage Denver. I appreciate your support of local entrepreneurs. My name is Kerrie Lovins and I operate Meditation 719 in Colorado Springs where I host a series of mindful workshops throughout Colorado.
In my youth, my mom was a single parent forging her path in life and that journey came with a lot of trial and error. We moved from coast to coast and eventually settled in New Mexico. I learned early on that life is never just one straight path. We all have a series of experiences and adventures that lead us to where we are today.
For example, in my own career, I started as an educator of young adults. I worked with at-risk youth to help them build the skills they needed to maneuver through their own life experiences. And, in a roundabout way, this led me to becoming a financial controller for non-profit organizations. I’ve always had a passion for mission-driven work.
Now, I embrace both of those aspects of myself, the creative teacher and the down-to-earth finance person. I teach mindful practices to help individuals navigate their unique paths personally and professionally. I believe when we learn to love these colorful journeys of our lives and the steps we take, we start to value the many facets of ourselves and something really beautiful transforms inside of us!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I always keep in mind the wisdom that, “change is inevitable, growth is optional”. In the world we live in, like you said we all face challenges and oftentimes this is related to change. I believe mindfulness is a tool each one of us can use to help us along the path. We will all face rocky times, but those bumps teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and our tenacity.
When I first started my business, it felt smooth for the first week, you know that pumped-up excitement that you are carving out a new path for yourself.
And like any new business, especially one that doesn’t fit into a typical box, the reality of creating and marketing this beautiful idea presented challenges and it got bumpy for a time. I used the skills I’ve learned along the way to get me through it. Mindfulness helped me to keep an open mind and find creative ways to solve problems. And now, I have my stride again and the road is a bit smoother.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Meditation 719 is a unique meditation studio located at Cottonwood Center for the Arts. With so much local talent, we are fortunate to collaborate with Colorado artists to bring reflective and contemplative art pieces into the studio to cultivate a sense of calm inspiration for our guests.
I want to invite anyone who has an interest in developing a mindful practice to email me and schedule a visit to the studio. We host group meditations, creativity workshops, and a mindful business series. Each one of us, whether we realize it or not, are artists at heart. We shape our lives in amazingly unique and beautiful ways.
To give you an idea of some of the workshops we have coming up, “Your Inner Balance” is a mindful creativity workshop that starts in June. There is a deeply profound connection between creativity and meditation and this class invites students to embrace what brings them into balance with activities from creating poetry, guided visualizations, working with mandalas, and more.
As part of the mindful business series, we offer “Excel Mindfully”, a virtual class. This workshop takes a different twist on a traditional Microsoft Excel class. Not only do students learn very practical spreadsheet skills for business but also relatable mindful practices that can be easily incorporated into the workday to reduce stress and to help connect to more joy.
And for anyone wanting to explore their meditation practice at home, we have workbooks and guided meditations on the website.
Can you talk to us a bit about what makes you happy?
Life. In all the forms life takes, I am reminded that we are each fascinatingly unique and undeniably reliant on one another and we have much to be grateful for.
