Rising Stars: Meet Kori Sulewski of Westminster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kori Sulewski

Hi Kori, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! I started my instagram account, @korireads, back in 2016. I had just graduated college and was really missing the connections that I found (and fun that we had!) from being around like-minded people on campus for 4 years. I suddenly had more free time than I knew what to do with and wanted to share my love of books and photography with others! So, on a rainy Saturday in February 2016, my bookstagram account was born and I’ve been sharing photos of books ever since.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Because I started my account as a way to share my excitement and interests with others, I think it’s really been a smooth ride. I didn’t know if anyone would follow me…and I didn’t really care! Little did I know, my account would grow pretty quickly and would turn into an outlet for me to be myself, to share things I’m passionate about, and to connect with people around the world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In a nutshell, I run an Instagram account (@korireads) where I post book reviews, talk about books, and promote books. I’ve had the account for 8 years and it’s been amazing watching the book community go from what I used to refer to as a “small corner of the internet” to something where I find connections in every facet of my life. I primarily read and review fiction, mainly fantasy/sci-fi, romance, and historical fiction. My reviews are short and usually based on how entertained I was while I read it. If I love something, I love it loudly. (If you haven’t read Red Rising by Pierce Brown… you should!)

I’ve met some of my best friends, organized a few international Secret Santas, hosted local meet-ups, joined book clubs, and worked with publishers and brands that I’m passionate about. I run this account because I love reading and the book world and my favorite thing is sharing that love with others.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The importance of human connection… even if not in person! I was fortunate to have a community created through the internet before the pandemic, and am even happier that that community has only grown over the last few years.
