Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Miller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started exploring my passion for hair in elementary school. I always enjoyed braiding my friend’s hair at sleepovers and during class. By middle school, I was doing prom hair for the high school girls, and by high school, I had did my first wedding. I went off to college, never really entertaining the idea of Cosmetology school but knowing it could be a backup plan if necessary. Which it was, because I dropped out at the end of my 1st semester and moved back in with my parents. I worked for 6 months then decided to start Cosmetology school, simply because I needed a creative outlet, and had absolutely zero desire to try traditional college again or work a 9-5 job. I graduated from in May of 2020, finishing my last few weeks of school online. I was hired immediately and started working right when salons opened back up. Fast forward a year and I left that salon, which made me feel like I was back at square one again. I decided to move to Denver and start LM Styling LLC, and start working at a booth rent salon. I felt like it happened so fast, but it has been nothing short of amazing. I am confident that it all needed to happen so I could redefine what being a hairstylist meant to me personally.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Every business owner deals with struggles along the way, personal and financial. So I wouldn’t consider my experience to be any different, but the largest struggle for me was maintaining my mental health. I used to shut everything off in my world, and work. and work, and work more. I believed that money could fill a void. I quickly learned that no matter how much you make, whatever is going on in that space between your ears, will actually determine how “successful” you are. Our wealth is found in the value of our thoughts, not in our bank accounts. The value of my thoughts caused me to break, but facing those problems allowed me to put even more love into my business. So I would honestly say I’m grateful for the obstacles!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Independent Hairstylist and Colorist! I offer styling services for weddings, parties, photoshoots, and any other event you need beautiful hair for! I can be contracted as well by local Denver styling teams, as I was in 2021 for the Broncos, the Spring 22 collection for Crocs, the 2021 Mrs. Colorado Pageant, and other various events and local companies. I specialize mainly in styling and hair extensions, and in the salon I offer a variety of services from blonding to fashion colors and more!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There’s a possibility it will go wrong at times, I would be lying if i said it was easy to start a business. But you NEED it to be hard sometimes. It’s absolutely necessary for mistakes to be made. Mistakes are almost kind, as they point us in the direction of where we should be, or where we could go. They are only offensive if you see them that way, but mistakes can be a great teacher as well. Embrace the change, switch your perspective, and dive headfirst. You won’t regret it.
