Rising Stars: Meet Marelie Jusino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marelie Jusino.

Marelie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a Puerto Rican living in Denver, Colorado. I started taking pictures just for fun with a digital camera in my high school years and then with my cellphone. Everyone was amazed about what I was able to do with just with my cellphone but I never had enough encouraged to buy a professional camera or take photography classes. I stopped taking pictures when I went to college and concentrate on planning my future and career. I did a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science with a minor in Chemistry and Medical Technologist. When I moved to Denver back in 2018 from Puerto Rico for a job offer, I started to be into photography again. At this time my parents decided to give me a professional camera as birthday present and that’s when I really started this journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I never had the confidence to say “I take great pictures” and I think is one of my obstacles because it holds me back to show my art. I am still an amateur in the photography topics but with time, I hope to get better. One of my biggest obstacles besides confidence is time since I’m a full-time Medical Technologist in one of the hospitals in the area and I’m a full-time brand-new mom.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My photography style is more floral and micro. I love to capture those details that at naked eye maybe you will not see. I love to see all the color spectrum, detail, or even a bug that a single flower can have. I also love to do landscaping and wildlife. I love nature.

I love tulips season since is one of my favorite flowers (personally) and one of my favorites to take pictures of. I can spend hours just admiring their beauty thru my lenses.

How do you define success?
I define success by doing what makes you happy, what fills your soul, and what makes you a good person. Success for me is having a family who loves you and supports and encourages you to do what you love the most.
