Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Hubert.
Mark, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We moved to Colorado in 2003 and I began in construction doing interior trim, doors and rails for new home builders during the ‘boom’ of the early 2000’s. As the market cooled and builders slowed down, I ended up making a move over to Association Management. I worked in HOA management for eight years and spoke to countless real estate agents as to how our industries crossed and the struggles we have between two very different sides of the fence as we operate in the home buying and selling process. I grew up in a household where entrepreneurship was not known and owning ab business was never really discussed. So, as time went by and I realize how I could better serve the buying and selling public, owning my own business was definitely a foreign thought and I had a ton of fear around the idea of being self employed. Regardless, I took the leap in 2016 and got my license. As years went by I realized that leadership was a calling in my life and that being a broker owner was something I wanted to pursue. I obtained my employing broker’s license and eventually opened my own brokerage. During that time, I also started to volunteer within my local association and started getting involved in local groups that advocate for private property and homeowner rights. I have served on the Public Policy Committee in our local association, I currently serve as the President of our local MLS and I am certified to teach testate mandated Annual Commission Update.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, it hasn’t even been remotely easy 🙂 Entrepeneurship is a mindset shift for me (as I mentioned) and it is a venture that requires mental fortitude and discipline. I’ve also recognized in my journey that limited mindset and imposter syndrome is very real and something I have to keep in front of me daily. The real estate industry can be difficult to navigate and often feels isolating so finding good humans to walk with and recognizing the truths about me rather than feeding into the messages that swirl around every day is definitely key.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Wow, this is fantastic deep dive for me. I specialize in educating homeowners and agents regarding our industry and helping each group (clients and agents) achieve their individual goals in real estate. I truly do operate out of a place of abundance and believe there’s enough for everyone. As I always quote Gary V as saying ‘you can’t beat me because I want you to win, too’. I truly believe that our industry is all mindset (90% soft skills) and would love to change how agents are educated in that capacity. Oh man, what am I most proud of?……outside of my family, I would say starting my own brokerage and having the opportunity to serve as the president of our MLS. What sets me apart is my insatiable desire to learn and be the best version of myself I can be. That will always be an ongoing journey for sure.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That not everyone is going to like me and that’s okay, I’m not meant to serve everyone or be everyone’s cup of tea.
