Rising Stars: Meet Michelle (Shelly) Luckow of Loveland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle (Shelly) Luckow.

Hi Michelle (Shelly), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, where creativity and community shaped much of who I am. My passion for art led me to St. Cloud State University, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Art Education. A few years later, driven by a desire to deepen my impact in the classroom, I joined a cohort at St. Mary’s University and completed a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

My teaching career began in 2007, when I started working as an elementary art teacher in Minnesota. In 2012, life brought me to Colorado, where I’ve continued teaching art at the elementary level in Mead. Over the years, I’ve found deep fulfillment in nurturing creativity in young minds—and I still absolutely love what I do.

But recently, my creative path took an unexpected turn. Within the last couple of years, I found myself drawn to a world I had never seriously considered before: fashion. My friend and mentor, Andrew Harvey, introduced me to fashion by casting me into my first fashion show. What began as a curious exploration has grown into an exciting new chapter—one where my love of art is finding new life in fabric, form, and personal expression.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path I’ve taken hasn’t always been linear. Life, as it tends to do, threw its share of curveballs—unexpected turns, difficult losses, and personal reinventions. In 2007, just after I graduated from college, my mother passed away from leukemia. She never got to see me step into my first teaching role, and her absence still echoes through my life today.

Since then, I’ve experienced a series of transitions—moving homes, switching schools, getting married and later divorced. Through it all, I’ve worked to stay grounded in optimism, focusing on growth and forward momentum.

Most recently, my journey has taken a completely new—and unexpected—turn into the world of fashion and modeling. Entering the industry in my 40s has been both exhilarating and daunting. Learning to pose, walk a runway, and navigate the ins and outs of the modeling world has felt like a roller coaster. But I’ve been fortunate to have incredible people by my side.

Betsabeth Keswick welcomed me into the Denver fashion scene, guiding me with patience and generosity. Her support has been instrumental. I’ve also benefited tremendously from the expertise of Zariah “Viper” Cameron-Lovell and her company, Darkziperox Coaching. Through workshops and meetups, she’s helped build not just my skills, but my confidence.

This chapter of my life is a reminder that it’s never too late to try something new—and that every twist in the road has the potential to lead somewhere unexpectedly beautiful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Defining my work within a single field or purpose has never felt quite right—because, truthfully, it isn’t just one thing. As both an artist and educator, my role is to help students discover their voices and express themselves through creativity. Watching young minds explore, experiment, and grow through art is deeply rewarding and continues to inspire my own journey.

But I’m also a model—still learning, still evolving. Stepping into this new world has challenged me in ways I never expected, pushing me to grow not just professionally, but personally.

Out of this blend of passions, I founded Enhanced Life—a platform that brings together art, modeling, and my personal dedication to health and wellness. It’s a space where creativity, confidence, and self-care intersect. I’m not entirely sure where the journey of Enhanced Life will lead, and I’m learning to be okay with that. What excites me most is knowing it doesn’t have to be just one thing—it can be a reflection of all the parts of me.
