Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah Seaborn.
Moriah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am officially from Pueblo, Colorado where I grew up with my parents and two older brothers. From there we moved north to Colorado Springs, and my dance career started in 7th grade in 2005. My friends and I put on a talent show, and I realized that I love to dance.
This encouraged me to take dance classes, and get a minor degree in the field, in addition to others.
From there I was able to develop my own dance classes and Christian ministry, as well as teaching for Genesis Dance Conservatory. That led to working with various charter schools and organizations in the local area.
I also work with my brother, Isaiah “5elect” Seaborn, and mother, Kim Seaborn, to do a collaborative outreach ministry called Cross Centered Records.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to this current place in my life has had its ups and downs. The biggest obstacle that I personally have had to face was believing in myself as an individual.
Dance is a very competitive industry, and dancers have to work continuously in order to get any acknowledgement. There were moments that I doubted that I was good as others, and whether or not I should continue. I’ve also had to battle against major health issues starting in my teenage years until the present. It is very taxing physically and mentally, and there have been days it is difficult to even get out of bed.
However, the high points definitely outweigh the low ones. I’ve found fulfillment in doing what I do, and helping others. I’ve found strength in ministry and my family/friends.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself a dancer first and foremost. I specialize in various dance styles such as Hip Hop, Contemporary, Praise and Worship, Ballet and several others. I am known for my solo ministry named Moriah’s Moves, where I teach people about dance, working out, and incorporating Biblical principles. Additionally, I work with my family to do outreach for the less fortunate under the Cross Centered Records label.
What makes me proud of myself is that I have developed as a dancer over the years. I have been able to use my skills to help others in a fun and a way that can touch others spiritually. I’m fulfilling a purpose that encourages me, but also effects other people.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was a happy-go-lucky kid that liked playing with my two older brothers and friends all day. I was always shy and quiet, but with familiar people I could be more open. I’ve always considered myself the nurturing type, ensuring that those I care about were alright.
Some of my interests included dance, reading, writing, puzzles, and animals. I call myself an “introverted extrovert” being happy in my own company, but cherishing relationships around me.
