Rising Stars: Meet Nicole Toledo of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Toledo.

Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been obsessed with beauty & style for as long as I can remember. When I moved to Colorado in ‘99 from Pittsburgh, Pa, I decided to apply to a makeup counter until I found a “real” job using my new sociology/physcholgy degree. I instantly felt a connection to working with so many women helping them pick out the right products and making them feel better. And I realized had some natural talent with color and choosing what worked best for them. I guess my listening skills, and desire to help people were still being used just in a different way. I was hooked. I have been doing makeup ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It takes time to figure out what really feeds you creatively. After my daughter was born, I decided that it was time to go out on my own so I could have total control over my schedule. It was a big leap and I questioned if I could make it happen without the security of a consistent paycheck. But I had to give it a try. I knew I was hardworking and passionate. And I had a small child at home so I had to make it work. I would say yes to everything to build my business. I just wanted to do makeup and be able to make a living at it. Over the years, I was able to choose the kind of work I enjoyed most. I have really honed in on my ideal client which also makes everyday much more enjoyable. I’m doing the kind of makeup I enjoy most and working with clients who love the looks I create.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full time makeup artist and licensed esthetician. I love natural and soft glam looks most. I love enhancing their best features. I want my clients to look like the best version of themselves. I do makeup for weddings, branding shoots, boudoir shoots, headshots, and for special occasions, etc. I love being part of my clients milestones (weddings, new baby, new business, etc). I am so lucky to see clients on their best days. Rarely do you get makeup for something you are dreading…so it is just good vibes all around. I love growing with my clients. Some I have know since doing their prom makeup, then wedding, new baby, family photos, and on and on. I just love empowering my clients to look and feel their best.

What’s next?
I would love to continue doing makeup for as long as I can. I would love to also grow my in studio services like makeup lessons and brow shaping because I absolutely love doing these services as well. Brows can truly make or break your look. And it is so fun teaching clients how to master their everyday makeup. I would also love to coach upcoming makeup artists and estheticians because I have so much to share from my long career in the beauty industry.
