Rising Stars: Meet Perry Smith Jr of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Perry Smith Jr

Perry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the Montbello Area and went to the Great Montbello High School, with us wearing uniform the only way to express yourself was through sneakers and shoes. I’ve always been a sneaker head at heart and continued that tradition throughout High Scholl and into College. The biggest thing I found was that what we considered to be cool and stylish shoes where just getting re-released over and over again. So through the pandemic I started putting my love for sneakers into designs that were different and represented things that I enjoyed and loved in my life. I officially released my first and only sneaker in the fall of 2020. 2021 my wife and I expected our first baby and that soon took all of my attention away from sneakers in 2022 my good friend and I opened our first sneaker store Todays Program. And with the success from that it allowed me to develop and creat my second sneaker in the fall of 2023 and now releasing my 3rd and 4th sneaker in 2024.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing ever smooth, and starting in 2020 when things where all over the place with not knowing what was going to happen to now battling with being a new dad of 2 and having the ability to focus on my craft and my family and making sure both don’t feel like one more important than the other.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
To answer this question the best way is I’d say I do everything that includes sneakers. I make my own sneakers I customize and paint others sneakers and I reconstruct and fix older sneakers. I believe I’m best know for being creative and think ideas all the way out when it comes to custom foot wear, when it comes to my own sneakers I’m best know for comfortability and design. I’m truly the most proud of making 3 of my own silhouettes that are created by me and people actually enjoying them. The thing that separates me from others is my eye for detail and I believe my hands on through the process of making everything myself.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was the life of the party the funny out going crazy guy and that’s truly been transferred to my kids and also my ability to move and be an adult in the crazy world we now live in.
