Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Victor.
Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My story starts in 2012 in Fremont, Ne. I had been making popcorn for a long time and people enjoyed the flavors I was doing. My husband mentioned to me that we should open a popcorn shop.
At first, I was a bit hesitant, but things presented themselves and it was like it was telling me to do it. Three weeks later, we opened our first Mom’s Popcorn. And then in 2018, we came to the Greeley area to visit my son. We loved it here and we wanted to be closer to our son, so we started to look at the possibility of finding retail space nearby. Lo and behold, we found a place in downtown Greeley.
So we started driving back and forth from the Nebraska store to Greeley renovating and building our new location.
We moved to Colorado and opened in early January 2020. We have since then grown to a bigger space and we now have a corner spot in the downtown area. We are a gourmet popcorn shop. Daily we make 45 different varieties of popcorn flavors. I have created 96 total which allows me to rotate seasonal flavors and just make random changes to keep people looking for what I have new. A true labor of love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not so smooth. 2 1/2 months into the opening in Greeley, Covid struck.
This shut us down for 8 weeks. My income just halted as so many others did. Talk about bad timing. And the year following was a challenge just with the fear people had and trying to meet their needs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most people don’t see the big deal in making popcorn. But I do. Anyone can just sprinkle flavors on the popcorn but I find a challenge in perfection. I spend hours perfecting flavors. This is a specialty shop and I pride myself on making sure it is just that, perfect.
We are known for our unique flavors, like dill pickle, watermelon, Mexican chocolate, Nashville hot, and buttery maple just to name a few. These are all my recipes. I am very proud of some of the flavors I create and watching people taste them and tell me how they taste exactly like what I say they are.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have a few places that offer my popcorn in their establishments and I have a few businesses where I make a special flavor of popcorn that they offer only in their business.
I also have a business that puts together special gift boxes and they use our small bags in the gift boxes. So if someone is wanting to add popcorn to the mix, they can talk to me and together we can see if we can come up with something unique for them.
