Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyhane Khonsari.
Hi Reyhane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I remember, I have been fascinated by mysteries of the soul, spirituality, and nature, and how they manifest themselves in the arts. I relied on the healing powers of nature to overcome the health challenges that I was facing from a young age, and to discover my identity and purpose in life.
Now I use my platform to talk about my experiences and my knowledge in herbal medicine, the power of meditation, healing arts, and somatic exercises to help others achieve their health goals as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing up in Iran, I was raised in a culture that was not only rigid in its acceptance of arts, but believing in any other religion or tradition other than Islam would have dire consequences. The resources to learn were limited and the future didn’t seem very bright for a woman artist.
However, despite all the hardship, I believe this is why I decided to focus my practice on women’s experiences and health. The core of my existence was villainized in the country that I was born in and I felt rejected from existing in a male-dominated culture.
Moving to Canada in my teenage years made things a little easier, but it came with its own challenges. On one side, adapting to a new environment and learning a new language was stressful. I developed anxiety and panic attack disorder that was not addressed for a few years.
On the other hand, I had to perform up to my parent’s expectations. They hoped that moving to a country with more career opportunities for women would make me choose a career path in the technology field, but it was not something I was called to. They had a hard time accepting my choice of going to art school.
After finishing university with a bachelor’s degree halfway through the pandemic, I was not very happy with how life was going on in Ontario, Canada. I needed something more, which I didn’t know what it was at the time, so I decided to travel. That’s when I moved to Colorado. There, looking for connection and living life authentically, I started my business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The focus of my work is how nature can help women heal. How through our dreams, our biology, our cycles, and different phases of our life we can benefit from a deeper connection to nature, which brings us back to a place deep within our soul. From there we can find our way through healing and a fulfilled life.
I grow herbs that are beneficial to women’s health in different stages of life and make medicinal tinctures, creams, oils, teas, and steam blends. I also use some of these herbs and flowers in my artworks to create jewelry and wall hangings that can remind us of the subtle beauties of nature and our connection with the great mother.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I believe nature has much to offer to us if we are eager to humbly learn from her. There’s inspiration all around us. Even in the mundane modern world, there are still mysteries waiting to be discovered. It’s on us to solve these mysteries and bring the world into balance.
Much of this knowledge is hidden inside each one of us and we need to unlock our inner potential. I currently have a free guide for anyone who’s willing to start this path and establish a connection to nature.
