Today we’d like to introduce you to Robbie Kumeso.
Hi Robbie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in the democratic republic of the Congo. I moved to the United States when I was 11 years old with my family. I went to middle school and high school in the US. After graduating I knew I wanted to do something in the creative field. I started looking for local open mics around town, and from there started building material for shows all over the state, eventually out of state as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a struggle explaining my career of choice to an immigrant family, making sure I dedicate myself fully to comedy while still having bills to pay, staying focused and being patient when you don’t see results right away.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a stand-up comedian. I specialize in telling stories in a unique and funny way. What makes me most proud is doing shows out of state and realizing that my material can work beyond Colorado. What sets me apart from the rest is the fact that I grew up in both the United States and the Congo, so I can bring a unique perspective.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is getting to the point where the sole income comes from comedy alone and being able to reach as many people as possible.
