Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Merritt.
Sean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Sean Merritt. I’m a proud father to four amazing boys, and when I’m not working, you’ll find us outdoors, gaming together, or diving into our favorite movies — we’re total movie buffs!
I’ve spent over 19 years in retail sales management and the computer technology field. But on September 14, 2023, my life took a powerful turn. That’s the day I began my recovery from alcohol. Through rehab and deep self-reflection, I discovered a greater purpose: to use my story and my strengths to help others find hope and healing.
After a year of sobriety, I enrolled in classes with Sparkle LLC, where I fell in love with the idea of becoming a Recovery Coach. I realized my natural ability to listen, empathize, and truly connect with people could make a difference in someone’s journey — just like others made a difference in mine.
Now, I’m honored and excited to take the next step in my journey with Colorado Psych Clinic and also Silver linings Recovery. I’m passionate about turning a 19-year addiction into a story of growth, resilience, and impact — helping others navigate recovery while continuing to walk my own path of healing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
19 Year addiction from alcohol has been one of the greatest struggles I have delt with in my life. Even thou this is a life long battle its has brought me to where I am today and the experiences I have can not be taught and being able to give back to the addiction community is something I never expected but also the most rewarding. Not only that but being a fill time father of 4 boys raising them has been a challenge or sure and it took a lot of patients to be able to get us where we are today. I bring hope to thus that have been forgotten and help them become the amazing people they are meant to be. Being on the other side of 4 attempted suicides and numerous detox facilities and rehabs with years of trying recovery and failed has made me who I am today. With out my trying so many times and kept moving forward I was able to voluntarily start my own recovery all on my own. I just knew I needed to be something better and there was a reason for me being here. I believe it was training me to be Peer coach to relate to people in this realm of addiction, I don’t know if this is to detailed but I’ve done almost 2 years of work on myself and I’m not ashamed to talk about where I came from because people need to know how real it can get with addiction and surviving it is truly something people need to know that its possible. I some times like to call my self a walking Flu shot for addiction haha.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a Peer coach for Silver Linings Recovery and also most recently Colorado Psych Clinic. Peer coaching is a field that requires me to have the ability to walk with others on there journey to recovery. Any type of substance abuse the client my be dealing with and also homelessness. Bringing clients from the depths of some of the darkest places anyone could be and brining them a light so then they can see there is always time to turn your life around and make it worth wile. Everyone deserves a second, third, fourth chance cause you never know what people are capable of. I help clients find there own path to success and develop there purpose, to be able to be part of that for someone is truly a gift in itself to see them grow from there trauma. I honestly don’t know what I’m known for but if there was anything I think it would be patents with people and the ability to actively listen to anyone and be there voice.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Always keep an open mind, you never know who you might meet and that person sees something that you maybe might not know about your self and pulls it out of you!! Also taking classes through Sparkle LLC with Lindsay Sparkle and also having Lindsay Sparkle as my mentor has been such an amazing journey I owe a lot to her for my own success. Also Angel, Country and Chris for giving me my first shot at starting my Peer Coaching journey with Silver Linings Recovery.
