Rising Stars: Meet Seana Hurbace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seana Hurbace.

Hi Seana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started this business just over 6 years ago in the midst of a personal tragedy. I had always dreamt of transforming homes. It began with pallet furniture and signs and quickly transformed into cabinetry and banisters. I had already been transforming furniture for years and viewed cabinets as furniture that hung on the wall. After many many hours of research, and learning as I went, I soon discovered the tools that were necessary for the job to be done correctly and since I rely entirely on word of mouth. I want my clients to love my work and tell their friends, and they do. I’ve been steadily transforming homes every single week for the 6 years I’ve been “in business”. I love what I do, and I love who I do it with. We have always included our children in every venture and this one was no different. Recently, they started working with me full time, to my absolute delight, and while training took some work, we are now a fine oiled machine that can deconstruct a kitchen, reconstruct a kitchen, with all that goes into it in just 3 days! I couldn’t be more proud of them. Now that school is back “in person” I just have one home with me and while we miss the other two, he and I can tackle a project like no other. From adding framing to crown molding and extra cabinetry and then of course paint or stain. As a woman who stayed home with her kids for the first 13 years of their lives, I wasn’t sure I would be able to start a business and have it thrive or be at all successful and I would say without doubt we are thriving, and loving every minute of it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, it has been a smooth road. There have been some trying times, people, and projects for sure, but more often than not, it’s been smooth. We are blessed to say the least!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart from others is simple, I love this, and I love helping people love their homes. I love taking something that needs attention, whether it be an outdated banister, a fireplace wall, cabinetry, or the entire home. I love walking into a space and telling the homeowner what I would do based on their current style and budget to make their kitchen, usually, their own. Bye bye builder grade is what I usually say. We don’t love these cookie-cutter homes, let’s make them our own, and for most people, that means I’m painting kitchen cabinets, adding some hardware, and maybe adding some crown molding, and working with other contractors to replace countertops, and add or replace the backsplash.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Over the years I have learned the best way to find out information, is to ask. I know that seems obvious but it’s really not. I have talked to people that do exactly what I do to make sure what I’m doing is above par. The best way to find a mentor in my opinion is simply to reach out to someone, usually on social media, that’s been doing what I do for longer.
