Rising Stars: Meet Shirley Colella of Lone Tree Colorado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Colella.

Hi Shirley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my small business in January of 2021. I was looking for a way to utilize my creative skills. This outlet has been a way for me to boost women’s confidence, including my own, through my earring creations. It has evolved into a small business that boosts women’s confidence as well as gives back to my community. Each month I select a different non-profit to highlight and give a portion of my proceeds to. I feel like my business is a blessing and being able to bless others through my business is something that keeps me motivated.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to get my business up and running has truly been a humbling experience. I am a nurse by trade and didn’t have the slightest idea of how to launch my own business. In the beginning I advertised and sold, solely through Instagram. About a month into launching my business, I realized I needed to create a website to help keep up with the demand. I find it challenging and rewarding as I learn more and more about e-commerce and sales.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create mixed-media earrings predominately made of leather. Many of my earrings are dangly and colorful statement earrings. When purchasing earrings from Poised Pelle, a portion of my proceeds goes to a different non-profit each month. I’ve donated to organizations in the recovery sector, homelessness, brain tumor awareness, and congenital heart defect awareness. When I started Poised Pelle, I wanted it to become something bigger than me just selling earrings. The personal confidence, relationships I’ve made, as well as the gratification of giving back, has surpassed all of my expectations. This small business gives me purpose and shows my children that anything you put your mind to, you can do it, and help others along the way.

What are your plans for the future?
One day I hope to expand my online earring boutique into an accessory and apparel shop. I plan to do trade shows, markets, and festivals as a way to get my name out into the community. I am hopeful as my business grows, I’ll be able to donate more monetarily to non-profits.
