Rising Stars: Meet Skyler Thomas of Golden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Thomas.

Hi Skyler, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey to becoming a business owner has been an eventful one. I started turning wrenches, when i worked on a horse ranch while I was in high school, at DCHS. I spent most of my time in the shop class and was rewarded with the opportunity to attend ACC, Arapahoe Community College, for automotive service technology; While still attending high school, and after graduating I continued at ACC to further my skills and knowledge. I have spent my professional career working for independent automotive shops across the Denver area, and acquiring 14 ASE certifications along the way. In 2023 I made the choice to file my business license, and chase my own independence. From class 4 fleet vehicle, to 100yr old parts of history; Scavenger Auto LLC is here to repair.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This have definitely not been the smoothest or easiest road to walk, most of the automotive industry is loaded with paperwork, problematic people, and “pay to play” politics. I started my business with a truck and a storage unit full of tools, one repair at a time I’m building a platform. I say the biggest struggle of starting an independent repair business is exposure, getting in front of quality clients can be the real trick to success

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an automotive diagnostic and repair technician. I specialize In electrical diagnostic and heavy line repair (engine and transmission replacements) I’m very proud to be someone who people call when other mechanics have said “no”

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always loved cars and motorcycles, and really anything that made noise. As a kid I was incredibly found of Jesse James and all the madness he created. Im sure if you asked my parents they would tell you nothing was safe from me trying to take it apart as a kid.
