Rising Stars: Meet Tanisha Lawrence

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Lawrence. 

Hi Tanisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my company 8 years ago while working in an office. I felt unfulfilled and wanted to have something to do to keep my thoughts away from work. Creating my own nail polish line was new and challenging. It began as a hobby but I became more and more invested. I very soon seen the potential in my hobby and made it my business. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Creating my own line of polish was quite challenging. My biggest challenge was the lack of mentors available to me. Everything I learned was though trial and error. I often felt somethings were avoidable had I been knowledgeable, especially when the consequence was a fee. Learning the different business entities and which was best for me was a huge struggle. I did not know much about how taxes worked and who to contact for help. I was not making much money in the beginning and most times help cost when it’s coming from a stranger. I also struggled with marketing offline, this is something I still struggle with however I’m improving. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a small business owner and flight attendant. I created my own nail polish. I combine the two because I love getting color inspiration from different women and cultures. Traveling allows me to learn first-hand about other women. My polishes are all vegan friendly and toxin-free. They are available at several different airpots and online. 

What does success mean to you?
Success is when you are satisfied with what you’ve done. If you can say I gave it my best shot and I have no regrets, you were successful.
