Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Santistevan.
Hi Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Falling in love with coloring hair when I was in middle school and high school, I knew I could make a career for myself in the field. Going to the salon with my mom was always the best trip I’d love sitting there and watching everyone being able to change someone’s look and create such an impact on someone else’s life inspired me even more! So I stayed true to myself went to college to get my cosmetology degree then shortly after got a job assisting the lovely Rj Hughes at Tease Hair Design Studio. He helped me excel into the stylist I am today. Today going on three years behind the chair and specialize in color and extensions. Couldn’t be any happier!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Social anxiety has been the biggest struggle along the way. As a child, I was always quiet and really reserved which does not scream hairstylist. Through college, I stayed this way it was really hard for me to connect with the clients but assisting really helped me warm up to the salon environment. I also found a way to connect with my clients by talking about hobbies!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a cosmetologist that specializes in coloring hair, but my main specialty is hair extensions! Being able to make such an impact on some of these women’s life’s is an honor! They trust me to color and install these extensions so they get the best hair they can. I’m so proud that I’m able to achieve such a good color match when color use to scare me the most! I think what sets me apart from others is that I try to be extremely professional and make sure my guest understands the process of color or extensions every step of the way.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck that’s a hard one! I believe luck is what you make it. I believe It’s all attitude based as long as you keep a positive attitude, everything happens for a reason. Some people will see some as lucky because I don’t let negativity affect me, I have bad days bad moments just like everyone but I don’t dwell because like I said I believe everything happens for a reason good or bad. I would say life has been kind; however, I have an amazing fiancé, great bosses and coworkers and outstanding clients!
