We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shelley Sapp. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Shelley , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely. Summer is our busiest season, and there’s something so special about seeing both locals and visitors gather at Lolley’s to enjoy a scoop (or two!) with friends and family. Hearing the laughter of kids on the patio, watching customers light up when they try a new flavor, and seeing our team work so hard and have fun doing it—it’s all incredibly rewarding. These everyday moments remind us why we do what we do and fill us with a deep sense of pride and joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lolley’s is a family-owned ice cream shop located in Downtown Monument, Colorado. We’re passionate about crafting unforgettable ice cream and wanted to share our rich, Midwest-inspired recipes with our community. We churn our ice cream daily right here in Monument, using fresh, all-natural, carefully sourced ingredients. PLUS everything we make is 100% gluten free – from our ice creams to our baked goods and cones. We take great pride in creating a menu that’s completely gluten free, but the best part is… you’d never know it! It’s just really, really good ice cream.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Growing up, it was just me and my mom. She showed me firsthand what hard work and determination look like—working full time while also finishing her higher education. Watching her juggle both roles with strength and perseverance taught me that when you put in the effort and surround yourself with a strong support system, you can achieve your goals.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
I used to think that as a small business owner, I needed to do everything myself to make sure it was done right. But over time, I’ve come to realize the importance of trusting and empowering our team. Delegating responsibilities and letting others bring their creativity and strengths to the table has not only helped our business grow, but it’s also created a more joyful and collaborative environment. Changing my mindset about leadership has been a big shift—and a really good one.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One belief we’re deeply committed to—no matter how long it takes—is building a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and celebrated. At Lolley’s, we’re not just scooping ice cream—we’re creating moments of joy and connection. From offering a fully gluten-free menu so families with dietary restrictions feel safe and included, to hosting community events, local artist showcases, and fun seasonal traditions, our goal is to be a bright spot in people’s lives.
We’re in this for the long haul—committed to nurturing a family-friendly space where people gather, memories are made, and kindness matters most of all.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember how much joy, connection, and light Lolley’s brings to the community. That it isn’t just an ice cream shop, but a place where memories are made and a place where families gather after a big game, where first dates start with sprinkles, where little moments become lasting traditions. I hope they say we created a space full of kindness, creativity, and community spirit, and that we always made people feel seen, welcome, and celebrated. If that’s the legacy, I’ll be grateful.
