We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dr. Christine Maren. Check out our conversation below.
Christine, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned is just how many of my patients are high-performing, high-achieving women who have spent most of their lives in overdrive. These are women who were often the “responsible one” from a young age, who learned to over function in order to feel safe, productive, or worthy. What’s striking is how often that history maps onto autoimmune disease. It’s a pattern I see again and again: the body finally says “no” when it’s been in a state of chronic stress for too long. It’s part of why I believe so deeply in a root-cause approach—because behind the labs and symptoms, there’s always a story.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Dr. Christine Maren, a board-certified physician and founder of a functional medicine practice that helps women reclaim their radiance through a deeply personalized, root-cause approach to health—especially during life transitions like perimenopause. I specialize in hormone imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, gut health, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic resilience. My approach is data-driven and personalized, combining advanced testing with clinical intuition and deep listening.
What sets my practice apart is our commitment to whole-person, high-touch care. I created the kind of clinic I wish I had during my own health journey—one that connects the dots rather than masking symptoms. My team and I follow my three-pillar method with our patients: Address the Root Cause, Optimize Hormones, and Build Resilience. We blend advanced testing, lifestyle medicine, bioidentical hormone therapy, and clinical insight to treat the whole person—not just the labs.
I’m especially passionate about what I call The Unmasking Effect—a clinical pattern I’ve observed in hundreds of women, where midlife hormonal shifts reveal deeper dysfunctions in the gut, thyroid, immune system, or metabolism. It explains why so many women feel like everything is falling apart in their 40s—and why conventional care often misses the mark. My goal is to help women understand what’s really happening in their bodies—and give them the tools to feel like themselves again, only better.
My practice is rooted in compassion, science, and lived experience. I’ve walked this path myself—through fertility struggles, the chaos of early motherhood, and the hormonal roller coaster of perimenopause. That’s why I built a collaborative care model that listens closely, honors your story, and delivers real, sustainable results.
I currently serve women across Colorado, Texas, and Michigan — and we’re accepting new patients. If you’re ready to move beyond symptom management and into a more empowered relationship with your health, I’d love to support you.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that believed I had to do it all on my own. Like so many of my patients, I’ve worn the badge of self-reliance for most of my life—pushing through, showing up, and rarely asking for help. That mindset served me during medical training and early motherhood, but it also came at a cost to my health and well-being.
I’ve learned that healing—whether physical or emotional—requires support. Community, collaboration, and delegation are no longer optional; they’re essential. Letting go of the lone-wolf mentality has made me a better doctor, business owner, and mom. It’s still a work in progress, but I now see receiving support as a strength, not a weakness.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
For me, the defining wounds have been the moments that brought me to my knees, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Struggles with autoimmune disease, gut issues, anxiety, fertility challenges, and perimenopause weren’t just medical problems. They were wake-up calls. Each one forced me to confront a deeper question: Why do I carry so much stress? Why do I always feel like I have to hold everything together?
I was raised to be fiercely self-reliant. That served me in many ways—but it also kept me from asking for help, from admitting when I was overwhelmed, and from trusting that my needs were valid. I internalized the idea that being “high maintenance” was something to be ashamed of. That needing support meant I was weak.
But healing has taught me the opposite. I’ve learned that my sensitivity is a strength. That I can care deeply about my health, my hormones, my body—and that doesn’t make me high maintenance. It makes me conscious. The truth is, every woman deserves to feel good in her body without apology.
These experiences have shaped not only how I live, but how I practice medicine. They’re the reason I meet my patients with both data and deep empathy. Healing isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, self-compassion, and the courage to finally see ourselves.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think a lot of high-achieving women – smart, driven, incredibly capable women – are still getting it wrong when it comes to their own well-being. There’s this subtle form of self-neglect that’s been normalized, even celebrated, in the name of success. We’ve been conditioned to believe that pushing harder, staying in control, and always showing up for others is the path to achievement. But often, it comes at the expense of our health, our intuition, and our joy.
I also think the “boss babe” culture got a few things wrong. Hustle isn’t inherently bad, but when it becomes a badge of honor at the expense of our bodies and boundaries, it’s a problem. The real power comes when women soften—when we tap into our intuition, regulate our nervous systems, and start honoring what our bodies are telling us. That’s when everything shifts. The truth is, alignment creates more success than force ever could.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand how deeply everything is connected. In the body, nothing exists in isolation—your hormones, gut, thyroid, immune system, nervous system… they’re all talking to each other all the time. The same is true for our emotions and our physical health. Most medicine still treats these systems in silos, but I see it more like a 3D puzzle—and that’s where my brain thrives.
It’s part science, part pattern recognition. I’ve always been able to hold complexity and find the thread that ties it all together. That’s what made me love organic chemistry, and it’s what drives me as a functional medicine doctor. The body is speaking to us —we just have to learn how to listen.
