Story & Lesson Highlights with John Martinez of Denver Metro Area

We recently had the chance to connect with John Martinez and have shared our conversation below.

John , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I feel integrity is a key element in life.. Whether is personal, or business. It is important to me to stay true to myself and my brand.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is John Martinez. I am the owner and operator of the Hauntaholics. We love all things scary. Movies like Hell House LLC, tv shows such as Ghost Adventures, real life paranormal investigations, and we specialize in reviewing Haunted Attractions all across the country. There’s a special passion in what we do. The adrenaline rush I get from being scared inside a haunted attraction is like no other. I want to share my excitement with like minded individuals. I have been at this for 13 years and cant wait to continue exploring, adventuring, and sharing with everyone out there.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We can lose ourselves in our close bonded relationships. The more one loses themself, the more fragile that bond once held weakens and can eventually break. In daily life we forget how special these bonds are. We daydream about a life away from the ones we once cared for. It isn’t until the bond is held by just a threads, do we stop and evaluate ourselves and what means the most to us

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A couple of years ago I dealt with great trauma. The turmoil in my life
boiled over. I thought I couldn’t go on with the Hauntaholics on my own. In life when we face great challenges, we see our true worth inside ourselves and find these amazing people in our lives, either new or existing who uplift us and tell us we can do this, We will push forward and things really will be okay. Today I find myself in a wonderful position and am so grateful I held on and never gave up.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
There is definitely a King of Halloween inside of me. The energy, excitement, and pure joy I get from my beloved horror genre in all forms brings out this burning passion in me. On an average day. I can be quiet, and keep to myself. I like to think before I speak. I often tell those close to me let me process life situations in my own way before I give an important opinion or make a certain move.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’d like people to remember me as a person who did not live a conventional lifestyle. I did this life on my terms. I cared deeply for my inner circle even if didn’t always show it. I want them to look back with a smile and a laugh. Remember the good times we had together. The love and passion and wonderful memories we shared, and the bonds that were made.
