We recently had the chance to connect with Julie Sanchez and have shared our conversation below.
Julie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been finding so much joy in spending time in nature and discovering new places. I recently took a road trip to Santa Fe and had the chance to explore the Valles Caldera National Preserve – it was breathtaking. I also love spending time in the Colorado mountains. There’s something about being in wide-open, awe-inspiring landscapes that makes me feel grounded and reminds me how beautifully small we are in the grand scheme of things.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Julie Sanchez, the founder of The Adventuress Soap Co, a handcrafted bath, body, and fragrance brand inspired by adventure, nature, and everyday magic. I started my small business in 2018 with a love for scent storytelling, creating products that spark wanderlust and help people feel connected to the places they love (or dream of visiting). I’m a traveler at heart and have traveled throughout Europe, chased waterfalls in Iceland, had my fortune told in Hong Kong, lived in Shanghai, rode camels in Egypt, and have explored many alpine lakes in my home state of Colorado.
Each collection is rooted in a sense of place, whether it’s a desert road trip, a cozy forest morning, or a memory of a night market in Asia. Right now, I’m working on something very close to my heart: a new fragrance collection for fall inspired by National Parks. I wanted to capture the awe, wonder, and scent of these iconic landscapes, from pine forests to canyon trails, and bottle that feeling of being small in a big, beautiful world.
Whether you’re lathering up or layering perfume, my hope is that every product brings a little adventure to your day.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of my memories of feeling powerful was in 2015, during my first solo trip abroad. I had a summer internship in Belgium, and it was the first time I was completely self-sufficient, navigating a new country, culture, and language all on my own. There was something incredibly empowering about figuring things out day by day, from catching trains to finding meals to simply existing in a place where no one knew me. That experience showed me how capable and resilient I really am, and it planted the seed for the adventurous spirit I carry with me today.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: Don’t be afraid to try new things, and don’t be afraid to fail. You don’t have to have it all figured out, and your path doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Trust your curiosity, follow what lights you up, and know that in time, everything will make sense, even the detours.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that freedom and independence really matter to me. I’ve always had a free spirit that needs space to roam, whether that means traveling, exploring nature, or just following my own path. Having the freedom to be curious, adventurous, and true to myself is something I deeply value, and it’s what allows me to live a life full of discovery and meaning.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived boldly and with curiosity and that I followed the call to adventure even when it was uncertain. Whether it was quitting my job to take a summer internship in Belgium or moving to Shanghai to teach English for a year, I hope my story reminds people that it’s okay to take risks, to explore the unknown, and to choose the path that excites you even if it scares you. More than anything, I hope my life inspires others to seek out adventure, trust their instincts, and create a life that feels true to who they are.
