Story & Lesson Highlights with Leigh Richards & Kate Fitzpatrick of Golden

We recently had the chance to connect with Leigh Richards & Kate Fitzpatrick and have shared our conversation below.

Leigh & Kate, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
We are currently a women-owned company that is balancing summer with our families. Leigh has just welcomed her second son, Graham into the world. So we are currently business planning and working in-between sweet smiles and naps.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Leigh and I are sister-in-laws as well as business partners. We have been in business for 2 years now come September. We have currently been loving the Pearl Street Farmer’s Market in Denver. The vibe is unreal this summer and we truly embrace each Sunday. We offer Dried Florals to the community, which includes custom arrangments, in-home installs as well as our monthly grab-n-go’s.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Leigh. She saw the opportunity while Kate said ” I just got all my kids in school!” Leigh saw a vision and wanted to run with it. She pushed Kate to see the benefit of a risk and how to make a business include the balance of having a family while also running our own LLC.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Valentine’s Day 2025. It’s a florist “Super Bowl”. We had crushed 2024 and then felt that 2025 had such promise and the outcome was such a mind-cluster. We were bummed and had a good snap into you take the good with the bad in business ownership.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Loyalty. We remember our customers, their needs and their connection. We remember reading a post around Christmas time. It said-a small company will always remember you with your order, a corporate chain will not.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Our flowers last forever and our relationship with each client.
