Story & Lesson Highlights with Nikolay kibkalo of Denver

We recently had the chance to connect with Nikolay kibkalo and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Nikolay, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Woke up, shower, cooking breakfast and lunch at the same time , short scrolling on my phone

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nikolay, and I’m a tattoo artist who truly loves what I do. I’m very detail-oriented and always make sure to listen carefully to my clients’ wishes so that every piece of art reflects their personality and story. Outside of tattooing, I’m passionate about sports and spending time in nature. I don’t have any bad habits—except maybe enjoying good food a little too much.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A defining moment for me was when the company I worked for suddenly shut down, and I was left without a job overnight. That experience made me realize how important it is to take full responsibility for my own life and well-being, and it pushed me to build a path where I could rely on myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, during my first year living in the United States I almost gave up. I could barely speak English, it was extremely hard to find a job or make friends, and I felt completely alone. I worked 12-hour physical shifts every day and had no idea when or if my life would start to change.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—both fortunately and unfortunately, the public version of me is always the real me. That’s how my parents raised me, and I deeply value honesty and authenticity in people. I believe sincerity is especially important and rare these days.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes, absolutely! Every time I go to work, I feel excited because I know the day ahead will be spent doing what I love. I’m very grateful that this feeling has never left me!
