Story & Lesson Highlights with Sarah Coleman of Steamboat Springs, CO

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sarah Coleman. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Being in the wilderness on a 6-day biking hut trip with my girlfriends – we laughed, we cried, we sweat, we grew, we conquered – there is nothing better than exploring by bike. Utah was magical in all of its glory – we biked through many different types of terrain – desert, alpine, aspen groves, Bryce Canyon hoodoos, and more!

The laughter is what kept us going – reading journal entries from groups before us, getting creative with weird food, playing Celebrity + Cards Against Humanity, singing, dancing, and trying to keep each other sane for 8 hours a day of riding with stories + jokes. But, man – we were proud of what we accomplished – almost 200 miles of riding and sooooooo much vert we lost count!

Laughter + pride = we did it!

Find something you have in common and start there. Go on a hike together. Workout together. Eat together. Cry together. Find common ground then rebuild the trust and respect by listening to learn and not to respond! As Ted Lasso always reminds us, be curious, not judgmental.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Lack of communication for sure! This causes false information to be completed in our minds! In order to restore this – start the conversation – have the conversation (even if it is hard). This is a work in progress for me!!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Young Sarah – don’t ever lose your sparkle! Stay true to yourself no matter what!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Making people feel seen and heard – showing them they are not alone no matter what battle they are facing. Allowing people a safe space to fall apart + build themselves back up. This can happen in a therapy office, in the gym, during equine therapy, in a CrossFit class, in the line at the coffee shop.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I love this question – I imagine my funeral where everyone is wearing bright colors and smiling – there is great music and awesome food too – it is a celebration!

I hope that someone asks the question: did Sarah ever make you a meal?! And I hope everyone raises their hand.
Then I hope someone asks the question: was Sarah your biggest fan?! And I hope everyone raises their hand.
Finally I hope someone asks the question: did you ever do a burpee with Sarah?! And I hope everyone raises their hand.
