We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sophie Warren. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Sophie , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, read the Bible, go to the gym, then make breakfast.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Sophie Warren! My older sister, my younger sister, and I run a small business called Sweet Bee Sisters. We started this business back in 2009 shortly after my parents started beekeeping. After we had the first honey harvest, we realized that we had a bunch of leftover beeswax, so we decided to turn it into lip balms. This was the launching point of our business. Since then, we have expanded our product line and customer reach through working with with companies to produce private labeled products. A few corporate examples are the University of Denver, Westmont College, Courtesy Acura, and Snooze AM Eatery. We’ve filled custom orders as small as 50 units, and as large as 6,000.
We not only love working with corporate clients, we also love interacting directly with customers. One of our favorite thing to see throughout the years is how we have been able to inspire the next generation of young entrepreneurs. Being an entrepreneur, especially from a young age teaches you how to problem solve, think quickly on your feet, and talk to people. Not only are these skills helpful in future endeavors, they program the way you approach challenges, situations, and interacting with others. Not only do I want to talk about how business has changed my life, but I want to teach other girls how it can change their lives.
Starting a business is no easy task, in fact, it is a lot of hard work and dedication. We don’t want the barrier to start a business to be the reason that kids never learn these valuable skills. So, coming soon to hopefully an area near you, is the Sweet Bee Sisterhood. The Sisterhood exists to let kids learn the valuable financial, interpersonal, and selling skills that come with running a business, without having to start from scratch. With the help of the Sweet Bee Sisters and the opportunity to sell our products, girls (ages 8-14) can venture on their selling path with some support from my sisters and me. We want to make running a business as accessible and attainable as possible.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents raised my sisters and I to have very strong work-ethics. My mom was the one who encouraged us to start a business. We had high standards and expectations set on us. Instead of these standards making us fear failure, it encouraged us to get back even stronger when we would fail. Ultimately, anything that we achieved was not through our own strength, but through the help of God.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure and disappointing myself has significantly stunted my ambitions. I wish that I could say that insecurity, the fear of failing, and caring what people think is something that you eventually outgrow, but I am 20 years old, and am still struggling with it.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to helping the next generation through entrepreneurship and business. This is a passion that if I desert it, I would deeply regret it for years to come.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop caring what people think. I would start every business that comes to mind. I would build foundations and companies that help people. I would get off of my phone and see the world around me. I would do things that scare me. I would tell people about Jesus. I would live boldly and unapologetically.
