Story & Lesson Highlights with Sormeh Graf

Sormeh Graf shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Sormeh, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
This is a brand new season of life for me, as my husband and I have a beautiful five month old baby boy, Royal Elliot Graf. Without hesitation Royal has brought me purpose and an overwhelming amount of joy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Sormeh Graf, founder and principal designer of Interiors by Sormeh. My journey into interiors began with a deep-rooted love for design, shaped by early years in the fashion industry and a decade of hands-on experience alongside my mother, an interior designer and landscape architect. After years spent immersed in creative environments, from styling A-list clients to managing multi-million dollar home projects, I launched my own design firm to bring a refined, personalized touch to residential and commercial interiors.

Originally from California, I’ve called Denver home for the past eight years. I’m a new mother, recently celebrated one year of marriage, and draw daily inspiration from my family—who are my ultimate ‘why.’ I approach each project with the belief that well designed spaces have the power to ground us, uplift us, and reflect our most authentic lives. Currently, I’m wrapping up two exciting out of state projects and continuing to build thoughtful, layered interiors that blend function, beauty, and soul.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is, without question, the one I have with my parents. I was raised by two incredibly supportive and loving people who instilled in me the unwavering belief that I am enough, that I have what it takes to take risks, pursue happiness, and define success on my own terms. They led by example: strong-willed, independent, loyal, generous, and unafraid of failure. Watching them build a beautiful life through grit and grace gave me the faith that I could do the same. Their influence is at the core of who I am, personally and professionally.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me what success never could: clarity. It revealed who truly had my back. I’ve always kept a tight-knit circle, often navigating challenges quietly and independently. As someone who is deeply loyal, sometimes to a fault, I’ve learned the hard way that not everyone deserves that kind of access or trust. While success tends to attract praise and surface level support, it’s in moments of hardship that people’s true colors are revealed. Those experiences taught me to observe more, act with intention, and protect my peace. I remain kind and present for others, but I’ve become more discerning and stronger for it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is the unwavering importance of family. My parents, both born and raised in Iran, immigrated to the U.S. before the revolution and have proudly called this country home ever since. Growing up, family wasn’t just important, it was everything. That deep-rooted sense of unity didn’t fade when I turned 18; if anything, it grew stronger. In our family, we move through life as a team. What each of us builds individually, we are also building collectively. I know that kind of closeness is rare, but it’s something I treasure about my culture and intentionally carry forward as I raise a family of my own.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When have you had to bet the company?
I’ve had to bet the company many times over the years, because in many ways, I’m still building it. Interiors by Sormeh is still introducing itself to Denver and beyond, and with that comes constant risk, recalibration, and trust in the process. I founded this company knowing that success doesn’t happen overnight, and I continue to invest everything… time, creativity, and heart into its growth. Each season looks different: some are quiet, some are wildly loud.

Recently, I’ve navigated major transitions in both my business and personal life, including becoming a new mother and redefining what balance looks like. While most people fold when it gets hard, when progress is slow or validation disappears- I am not most people. I’m not here for comfort, I’m here for growth. I’m here to outlast doubt and become the one who kept showing up when everyone else gave up. This journey is fueled by discipline, consistency, grit, and resilience… and that’s what I continue to bet on, every single day.
