We recently had the chance to connect with Trish Bonney and have shared our conversation below.
Trish, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
100% integrity first…and if I am not intellectually confident in answering a question I will make sure to let the person know and that I will look into finding the answer for them. I really hate that fake it til you make it saying, I also wish I could know everything but will be the first to admit that I don’t but am totally willing to try to find the answers for you!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an interior designer and my company is TAB Interior Designs. We are a full service firm that is able to be there for a client from start to finish of a new build or remodel. What I feel is unique about us our ability to offer as much as we do in house, but we are also willing to work a la carte…meaning if you just need cabinetry for example, we are a dealer for a few cabinet lines and can just sell those as needed. If you just need construction drawings for permiting and nothing else, we can provide those. If you just want a new sofa or you want the TAB eleves to come and deck your halls for the upcoming holiday season…we are here for it!
The other thing is that I am a big advocate of education, so all of the designers on my staff…we do have our degrees in interior design and we are consistently trying to stay on top of our industry. But with that being said, due to our backgrounds we design specifically for our clients wants and needs…so when you look at our website or social media it is very eclectic from project to project because we design for each client individually rather than a rinse and repeat design style.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The day I graduated from basic training. I had some people say that I wouldn’t make it out of basic training and honestly, many sleepless nights were spent in my little cott like bed debating if tomorrow would be the day I would be sent home. But when that last day came and the ceremony started, I wanted to scream & jump around but could only do so in my head while I had to stand at attention!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes…February of 2020 because of the pandemic but that turned out to be my best year in business and again in May of 2024. In 2024 I found out that my business partner at the time just up and left me in a world of financial hurt…to this day I still don’t know where he is. But it was probably the worst point ever in my life and unfortunately I am still trying to deal with that. Part of me wanted to give up…but as soon as someone said “can you come back from this”…the challenge was accepted. It has been a rough year and a half…but I am determined, I truly love what I do, and most importantly I have built a team that depends on mean and I will fight tooth and nail to be able to be their for them!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am always committed to all projects I start no matter the consequenses…I hold myself responsible to a fault. For example, I have one amazing client that I met in 2019 that wanted to build her dream home in Wyoming. She had initial architectural drawings done but wanted to work with a designer and needed a contractor. My part I had no issue with but I regrettfully suggested a contractor that I thought was on the same page as me in the sense that integrity was a priority. He started construction in 2020 but in the midst of construction he literally went MIA with a lot of unfinished paid for work left to be done. The client and I have continued to work together, her house is finally finishing up this year, and we are now in the midst of finishing up her furniture orders for her. I am your ride or die type person…if you have faith in me and respect what I have to offer in any relationship…I am here for the long haul.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! Every human that has a heart and soul loves praise….but with that being said, it is not a must for me as I just want my clients happy at the end of the day. When we create a space for a client that I feel is worthy of more attention, like an award or should be shown off in a magazine….I do try to put in for those accolades in hopes to bring even more joy to the clients. So when their project is in a magazine for example, I try to send them copies of the magazines in hopes that it makes them even prouder of their surroundings.
